VPN to mask my location. Work computer is locked down tight. VPN via router?

I know the phone will passively scan, and your phone broadcasts the SSIDs of networks you have saved. If you connect directly to many networks, your phone will continuously tell everyone around you all the networks you have connected to whenever you aren’t connected to wifi. This information can be used to query public databases and paint a picture of places where you spend your time.

If you use only 1 or two access points, and one of them moves around a lot, this information is much less useful.

Is this only applicable for mobile device usage? I’ve used the Gli.net setup with two routers and got fired, company was able to trace immediately and I had the kill switch activated so it wasn’t like the vpn leaked

It’s a big boi minecraft server, tens of thousands. Although, I’ve heard of another employe… i mean player have zero issues connecting from all over the place without getting flagged by security.

My Synology RT2600ac connects to my ExpressVPN account just fine thank you very much. I choose my exit node. So yes depending on the age and the router they very much can act that way.

In addition, OP could tunnel from his mobile location back to his home location network via a VPN too and use a home location as an exit node. If his work laptop is Always on it would be a tunnel in a tunnel in another tunnel. So it could be high latency.

Routers absolutely do work that way & you can setup a router as a VPN client and connect to VPN provider like Nord VPN

Uhhh…

You do know YOU DO make the sock5 and that it wouldn’t be on any blacklist…and not just buy one

They don’t, the employee is liable for reporting billable hours in other states that have laws like that.

You can absolutely set up your own IP on a cloud or other hosting provider that isn’t a traditional VPN provider and configure it as a VPN. Why not?

Same as mine. I can only vouch for blocking outbound VPN connections. Sounds like you might be safe on the inbounds if others don’t have issues.

Not saying you can’t, saying a VPN provider would be flagged. If you’re talking aws or something like that, it’s better but you pay egress fees on that. Sure you can do it.

AWS is the biggest provider in the world and has some of the worst network traffic fees. It’s a lot of work for a VPN and I wouldn’t do it, but it isn’t that expensive (to use a small hosting provider, not AWS)

Ok?

I’m not telling anyone what to do. I’m providing options.

Most companies monitor for specific things like known bad actor IPs, traffic from unwanted countries, etc.

You are not going to get caught using Joe Schmoe hosting provider as a VPN. You MIGHT get caught using Amazon but probably not at most companies, as long as you use an IP in a region the company allows.
