The only problem in doing this is that the VPN connection to your IPsec hub could drop anytime, even for a few seconds, and you’d not know about it and you’d continue to use the local default route to go to the internet. But then this risk exists in all VPNs.
Edit. On your local sonicwall you can create a policy to deny traffic going out through the local wan interface. So yes this could work flawlessly.
This most likely can get you caught. I can set you up with 2 devices (one at home) and one on the road that you will connect to the one at home and make it look you are at home. This would not work in a car as you need to plug Ethernet cable.
Synology RT2600AC + Surfshark or other vpn provider works very well.
You will likely still get caught though unless you are coming from an actual ISP IP from your area. Our IT company actively monitors IP address ranges for this sort of thing.
What I did when I needed this was to put up a VPN on on my network, then from the router at the destination I wanted to hide, I would vpn into my home vpn (PiVPN) from the router which supported vpn natively. This then made my connections all look like they were all coming from my home ISP assigned IP address. Worked flawlessly. Since the connection is done at the router level though, I would only use this from the destination home network and never a cafe or something like that where I could not guarantee my masked IP.
Not A good solution.
Also, a hotspot with your iPhone doesn’t use the VPN IIRC. The traffic thats comes from your hotspot will use the provider connection directly even if the VPN is enabled.
I assure you, this isn’t for anything remotely criminal. We have unreasonable rules regarding being at home when remote and none of it has anything to do with security, it’s just old people making rules. Same sort of people that are “concerned” when the lighting is bad when you’re on video
Nah, it’s nothing like that. Just some arbitrary asinine rules about having your butt in your chair at your house. I’m looking for other jobs because I can’t even go to a fucking coffee shop to work if I wanted to.
Find someone in the area you want to appear to be from, and pay them to connect an OpenVPN box. Probably be cheaper per month if they want to be reasonable as a way to defray their own internet cost.
Yes many routers. An use free openvpn natively. You can just literally connect another router to your current setup and just set it up so they dont share wifi.
The only reason to go this route is if your router firmware is trash and you can’t flash it or configure the VPN on it. But if that’s the case I’d just buy a different router.
