VPN for stremio

Hey was wondering which vpn people use with stremio, im looking for one that can be used on a Android tv. Seeing other subreddits saying mullvad is the best

If you’re just wanting it for Stremio, you should use a debrid service, not a VPN. Both can achieve the result you’re looking for, but a debrid service is the tool better suited to this particular task.

A VPN protects your privacy by redirecting all of your internet traffic through a particular server using an encrypted connection. No one between you and that server can see what you’re doing, and anyone on the other side of that server only sees that server’s IP address and not your own actual IP address. The advantages of this are that your ISP can’t see what you’re downloading or even what websites you’re connecting to, and you can bypass geographic restrictions based on IP address simply by connecting to a VPN server within the allowed geographical area. The disadvantage is that the redirection of your internet traffic will reduce your connection speed by some amount.

Here’s the dirty little secret that VPN services would rather that customers not think about though: a secure HTTPS connection to a website also prevents anyone between you and the server you’re connecting to from seeing what you’re doing. They can see that you’re connecting to the specific server (assuming that your DNS traffic is not also encrypted, which is becoming more common), but not what information is passing between you and that server. And the strength of the encryption used is just as good as that used by VPNs. Debrid services like Real-Debrid and All-Debrid default to a secure connection (even though you can change this in your account settings if you’re an idiot), so when streaming cached content from a debrid service you get the same level of privacy and security you’d get from using a VPN but without the speed reduction inherent to using a VPN. And not only that, but you’ll probably get a better experience streaming cached content from a debrid server than from a torrent unless that particular torrent has a very large number of high-bandwidth seeds.

Additionally, since copyright laws are fundamentally based on distribution, you’re on slightly more solid legal footing using a debrid service than torrenting. BitTorrent is inherently a 2-way protocol, such that as soon as you begin to download a file you’re also sharing the pieces of the file you’ve downloaded even before you’ve completed downloading the entire file. Using a debrid service, the service does the actual torrenting and you simply stream the completed cached file from their servers.

Cost-wise, a debrid service is likely going to be slightly cheaper than a VPN, though it varies by the specific service. Neither are terribly expensive, though.

There are definitely reasons to use a VPN, such as if you want to access geo-restricted websites or services from restricted areas, or if you need to hide not only what content you’re accessing but also the servers you’re connecting to (which may be important regarding government restriction of internet access). But if you’re specifically wanting to use Stremio to watch content without running the risk of anti-piracy agencies sending nasty letters to your ISP, you’re much better off using a debrid service.

If you have real debrid, you don’t need to have a VPN.

Mullvad works great. Shuttle VPN works well too.

All or real debrid dont neet vpn and its cheaper

Any VPN should work with Stremio, I use Mullvad.

But the answer to your question is all vpn work as long there is a app for it

Windscribe is the best free VPN. 5GB out of the box, +5GB if you make an account and +5GB if you @ them on Twitter.

15 GB a month is pretty good for a free VPN, other popular free VPNs like tunnelBear only have 500mb.

I also used hide.me VPN for a while, it’s pretty shady and I don’t really recommend it, but it does give you 10GB per month.

They have a page to view all accepted VPNs here

I personally use NordVPN and I haven’t had any issues.

I’ve never had any problems with IPVanish.

You’re begging for shills to come to this thread and dump their trash on you with this question, just fyi.

I’m using Surfshark ( https://surfshark.club/friend/m8UwB7Qy referral link, btw) and haven’t had any issues.

It’s cheap and it allows an unlimited number of devices so I can install it on the laptop, on the desktops, on the tablet, and just not worry about it. I live in the rural Southern US, and can usually get > 30ms ping and 60-80 Mbps download and upload. Works well for me. May be something better that I’m unaware of.

Wow, Great breakdown, this answered all my concerns, thanks a lot!

E como faço pra utilizar debrid no stremio? Eu na vdd quero pra usar o stremio com segurança, sem ter alguém vem meus “dados” ou algo assim.

So streaming content from real Debrid is legal? I havent used real Debrid so dont know much about it

Sorry to dig up an old thread but ive been using a VPN with Stremio for years, is this really not the best way to do it? I havent had any issues at all with buffering either. I use Stremio almost exclusively on my Fire TV stick, Is there real debris on that and is it as easy as just leaving the service on at all times and being secure with every torrent I stream? And does real debris have an auto connect so that is always stays on for certain apps with exclusions for youtube?

Eh, Windscribe can be had for $3/mo, paid monthly, via Build Your Own Access plan - so not necessarily.

Do you use it on an Android tv?

Actually u can pay 3$ in a custom plan, with unlimited data but only 2 locations, and the free ones

You are probably right about that
