I want to know if I set up a iKEV2 VPN in a windows based workstation or use browser based proxy settings, will our IT know how that particular workstation connects or whether a VPN connection was set up?
If they’re the least bit confident, yes.
- Can you even install software? Do you have admin rights to your machine?
- Will the network even permit a VPN connection? Port blocking? Protocol blocking?
- Do they have network monitoring software in place that will recognize VPN activity?
- etc etc etc
Will the IT at my workplace know whether I’m using VPN at a workstation?
Yes.
Your best bet is to consult your workplace IT department on their policy of running a VPN on company hardware.
Unless they’re monitoring traffic specifically, they might not be able to tell, but it’s always best to check your company’s policy!
Of course they will know. The bigger question is, will they inform HR that you are using a VPN to do whatever it is you’re doing instead of working.
I see, I did set it up though , but I did not initiate the connection.
I had the same questions as well; but I started making the vpn connection from windows settings and I successfully made it, but before establishing connection, I thought it’s a organizational PC so I should ask port blocking, I don’t think they have, I frequently use any normal VPN on my mac, works fine.
They seem to be incompetent because randomly they block totally legit, research websites. Even some websites related to the parent organization have been restricted recently, am sure that’s totally incompetency
Frankly speaking, they have a dead internet speed. I was just curious. And I stumbled upon this fact that they have even restricted access to a parent organizations website which is the backbone of my work.
Maybe file a support ticket for the blocked site…
This I’ll definitely do, thanks
