Why doesn't a TV show or Movie show up when I change my country through VPN?

Hello! Hoping to get a solution or at least an answer to my problem.

Most VPN advertise their services to subscribe and be able to have a subscription based streaming service and be able to switch between countries to watch all the shows available throughout the world. An example would be, subscribing to AmazonPrime in USA, watch w/e and if you want to see a show that is not available on USA territory but it is through Italy, Change your VPN to Italy and viola you can see the show. At least that is how I understand it. Most time I know this works and some series/movies do change because on Netflix it says “the most popular in USA” “the most popular in Spain” etc. But most time when I want to watch a specific movie or show I change my VPN to the countries I know that are streaming it but unfortunately doesn’t show.

Example: TV Show the Royal is available on Amazon Prime in Portugal and Italy. I switch to either country, restart browser but it still doesn’t show up.

What am I doing wrong or I am simply misunderstanding how VPN should be used?

Answer: you got mislead by Youtuber sponsor segments. While this used to be how it worked a few years ago, *nowadays*, most streaming services don’t get your country from your IP address, they get it from your payment details, i.e. your credit card that you used to sign up to the service. In order to get a “different” country, you’d need a credit card from a bank from said country

Glad I decided to come here before taking the plunge.

Actually not the case. I travel constantly and get local in-country programming on NF.

OP - when you switch locations on the VPN you need to also go in and clear cache (or sometimes all data) on the steaming app for it to pick up the new location.

Note it can also be a PITA because some apps will keep separate or reset your watch history, lists, etc.
