I donate to Wikipedia every December. This year I upped the amount to $15 and when I went to the checkout I was told it was only $11.60 instead. It seems I had inadvertently donated $15 CANADIAN since my VPN was in Toronto at the time!
I went to the site https://iknowwhatyoudownload.com/ to see which torrents had been registered on my ip, only to realise that since I was using a VPN I also got to see what every other person who used the same VPN also downloaded. A lot of which was child porn.
Forgot to turn it off one day and logged into my bank account and coinbase.
Coinbase froze my funds for an entire year.
Wells Fargo banned my account and it was really tenuous for about 6 weeks as to whether they would give me my funds back. They talked down to me so hard and said I was “lucky” to be getting my money out.
When I refresh my podcast player connected to VPN, I get embedded ads that are local to my VPN endpoint. I first noticed it when I heard an ad for a car dealership in Seattle.
I once tried to book a flight and accidentally got charged more because my VPN was set to a location in a different time zone. I didn’t realize at first, but when I checked the price difference later, I found out the website had offered me a price based on regional pricing—way higher than what it would’ve been if I had used my actual location. Definitely a surprising experience!
That’s fucking hilarious. I have my parents staying with me after they escaped Ukraine and I just went on that site and it’s all Russian movies. My mom got into torrenting a few years back.
Why doesn’t everyone use Credit Unions? Wells Fargo can suck it. My CU account got frozen after I connected to Romania as a lark and forgot. Someone called me and apologetically walked me through what we needed to do to get it unfrozen. He never acknowledged that we were doing the whole thing because I was a dork.
Imagine watching a footy stream and seeing adverts for a taxi firm giving reasons why you may need them. Some guy skinning up a blunt was an eye opener…
