What is RAV antivirus?

Recently i was on my computer, bored, and decided to play some pokemon, so i look for some ROMs and one turned out to be a virus, thankfully windows spotted as such and deleted it, but ever since then RAV Antivirus seems to have appeared on my computer, is it a virus? it keeps giving me popups that tell me to “buy premium” and stuff and i have no idea where it came from, and wherever i look online i cant get many answers

Hello,

Many years ago, a company named GeCAD had a program called RAV Antivirus. They sold it to Microsoft, and eventually it became the basis for the current Microsoft Windows Defender product.

More recently, it seems there is a rogue or “fake” antivirus program which has appeared using the same name.

If you look in the Uninstall or change a program applet (filename: APPWIZ.CPL), perhaps it will be listed there and you can then remove it.

Guys, run the uninstall.exe and the Programm ist deleted, but u must delete the „safedweb“ Programm too it’s from the same company

This is an old thread, but I got RAV from a cheat engine installation. Nearly a year goes by with it installed, and me ignoring it. But something had been bugging me recently, I noticed my auxiliary fan was going more frequently when I wasn’t gaming, and the temperature was within good ranges, but higher than it had been in the past. I decided to dig a bit deeper today and I found my CPU was constantly overclocked when I was doing nothing. I dug in task manager and I found around 19 percent CPU usage from RAV antivirus, I disabled it in task manager, and my CPU usage plummeted to below overclocking, and it is at a total of 6% usage at the moment. It was insane, I never knew RAV was having that impact. Good riddance to it.

It should be no virus, it is a outdated AV program. Try to uninstall it and search+delete any remaining files from it

I think it comes with the Cheat Engine installer now.

Hi,i installed cheat engine and accidently selected to install rav antivirus with it, should i be worried?I havent seen any pop ups or messages, only saw it in the proccesses and immidietly unistalled it, should i be worried?thanks.

I think I got it gone. I launched safe mode and deleted the file itself. So far I havent seen it pop back up.

Its shet and im not going to ask how this shet got on my pc

It’s all cool, I got the same “antivirus” I’m gonna show you how to delete it

Open task manager
Press the R key. If you see the “antivirus” right click it and click “Open file location”
Now scroll down until you see uninstall then click it

It may look untrustworthy but do this with me. Click uninstall
Now just wait

If you don’t see the uninstall program just click the folder before and scroll down

If you’re of windows 10 you could click the windows button, search “Control Panel”, click on it then search “Uninstall Program” and you should click on that, then look for the program you want to uninstall.

Posting this in case it helps a fellow noob out. I was not so lucky and got the actual virus. I managed to uninstall rav almost immediately, or so it seemed, then I wiped every trace of its files (both rav and mcafee web advisor). It still mostly blocked real time protection and other security settings, to the point of scans not working or being automatically denied, the good old “Your IT admin limited access”. I tried various antivirus programs, including malwarebytes and ESET, but they found absolutely nothing wrong. Revo uninstaller also found nothing out of the ordinary.

The only thing that helped me was going through the windows services manager through run (services.msc) and turning off whatever wasn’t strictly windows related or recognizable, aka a bunch of remote and/or remote access options. Settings returned to functioning, offline defender scan notified of unwanted malware, and with subsequent scans everything seems to be back to normal

I thought it came with norton but yea i installed cheat engine

heck i think i got the actual virius i keep trying to locate the file location and dragging to my trash bin cause for some stupid reason when i try to uninstall i keep getting NSIS ERRORS every single time i try to delete uninstalling the program well when i use my trash bin it just comes right back and the pop ups start coming in again… I cant seem to get rid of it i had someone from best buy try and help me no fix the hackers won… I have no way of getting rid of it i looked up online and others are having the same issues whoever came up with this crap needs a real kick to the balls and needs to be sent to prison online it says to install revo uninstaller another third party app just to uninstall it but i will pass not risking them ruining it more for me than it already is whos to say i download it and more crap comes with it not risking it there has to be a safer way to get rid of it if anyone knows a fix please i would hate to take back my computer cause of them i cant let these c0cksuckers win

i have something called RAV VPN should i get rid of it?

thing s, if RAV was a virus, he eont let us get rid of it easly by uninstalling it.

You should use revo Uninstaller i had the same problem, looked on reddit and saw that tried it and it worked

not there for me, and it keeps popping up saying i have a trojan and need to buy it to remove it.

I tried to uninstall it on my pc and it wont uninstall i tried to delete the files and wont and also was denied from ending the process in task manager. I think mine is a virus

it also may have downloaded “McAfee web advisor” and “reason cyber security\reason safer web” delete this aswell this 3 come bundled together, you delet one and the other comes next week to tell you to get rid of a virus or something like that.
