I finally found a cfs doctor who will take my insurance but when scheduling an appointment I was told that I have to travel to NY to see the doctor via video. If I use a VPN that says I’m in NY would that work? I don’t see why I should have to travel and pay for a hotel just to have a video appointment. Has anyone else been in this situation?
I think it has to do with the doctor only being licensed to practice medicine in a certain state, so the patient has to also be in the same state for them to legally give medical advice. You could try a VPN. Worst thing that can happen is they say they can’t help you.
Yes - I wondered if anyone had this issue too. I tried to get a virtual appt with Dr Natelson at Mt Sinai Pain and Fatigue Clinic but was told I didn’t live in a state he had an “application” for. His office told me I’d have to be in NY or PA to do the virtual visit. It may be licensing requirements - doctor may have to have a license in the state the patient is located during the appt - even if it’s virtual or telehealth. I know for sure he doesn’t have a license in my state. I’ve been trying to get an appt with Dr Levine but her office keeps putting me off. Earlier this week they told me they would send me paperwork “later.” Sigh. They haven’t actually told me they couldn’t do a video visit, though. She does accept my insurance. Is this Dr Levine that you are trying to see?
No I’m trying to see Dr. Natelson. He’s so far the only one I’ve found who takes Medicare. I just filled out all the forms and am now waiting for them to call me to set up an appointment.
Ok so it seems they’re telling people this consistently. Have you decided what to do?
