VPNing qTorrent directly?

Howdy,

Is it possible to somehow VPN qTorrent’s traffic exclusively?

I mean in a way that does not involve setting up the VPN’s network lock, yet ensures all torrenting traffic happens through the VPN.

I’m tired of having to choose between torrenting and watching Netflix.

Well, the short answer is yes. The easy answer is: use a proxy instead, that’s what stuff like that is for. The hard answer is: learn how to write firewall and iptable rules.

I run a virtual machine, in it I run my VPN and do all my torrenting.

Qbitorrent / Tools / Option / Advanced then network interface choose your openvpn interface click apply and ok restart qbitorrent

Test it with a file (ubuntu ISO or something else) disconnect VPN and it should stop Download/upload

Or deactivate vpn first and then add in qbitorrent the magnet link from ipleak.net (torrent adress detection) it should fail until you activate vpn

Sounds like a great idea. How hard is it on the CPU?

You can try it, it’s not that bad BUT, I don’t give the VM too many resources since it doesn’t really need them anyway. Which does make things like “Force Rechecks” take a bit long, but IDC because it’s on 24/7 anyway.

I have a multicore processor and I dedicate one core to the VM and I don’t feel the system being bothered. Disclaimer, I’m no gamer, games may feel the extra load on the system. My system runs a full Plex server with a couple of transcodes at the same time and that’s about it
