VPN server and IP addresses

Apologies in advance if these are dumb questions. I’m kind of stumbling my way through this.

I set up an L2TP/IPSec VPN server on my Synology. This has worked great for various use cases. But the Synology itself seems to assign a local IP address to any device that’s connected, which means it can’t really “see” any other devices on my local network.

For example, my local network uses 192.168.1.x, while any devices connected to my Synology via the VPN gets assigned 10.2.0.x.

Is there any way to have my router assign the IP address instead? Or maybe this is just a limitation of using the Synology as the VPN server (rather than something like the router itself)?

You can see them, just install an IP scanner. You cannot overlap the addresses from the router.

If it doesn’t work try tailscale

You should be able to see other devices on your LAN and Synology shares. Probably a configuration issue when setting up the VPN Client file.
