Hello. I have an open VPN server- it is my own IP address. I connect to it though a router, so my computer is never connected to a local WIFI network. Only the router that is always running the VPN. I know the computer is connected to the VPN because the IP address still shows the fake location I want it to. PROBLEM: when I go to Google Maps on my browser- it imminently pins my real location. What’s going on? I don’t think I have a GPS in my computer.
Turn off location services, GPS, clear browser history cookies. Restart all programs starting with the VPN.
make sure you logged out og google account, and clear cookies and cache
Thing is, I don’t normally use google. I went to incognito mode and opened google maps in my browser to test if it could find me.
The VPN i use is on my router, so my computer literally can’t connect to the internet unless it’s through that router with the VPN.
So I guess I’m realizing just cause I can mask my IP doesn’t mean my location is hidden
Amatures…
Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/
I bet you see two IP Addresses:
- IPv4 is most likely your VPN Server’s Public IP
- IPv6 is most likely your Local IP which is giving away your true location
You get around this by disabling IPv6 on your machine.
Please comment if this is correct. Id like other people to take note. I never see anyone bring this up. Somehow this always seems to get ignored.
Did you know that google was fined 5 biliion $ fir tracking people through incognito?
Only use open source maps.
And you can download maps to for offline vieing?
And check using various parts of browserleaks.com
