Whenever my kids try to access pbs kids, the app loads up, and regular videos can be accessed, but whenever they open the live tv, the app says I’m not in the usa, but my vpn IS connected to the usa, so what’s the problem? (I’m in canada, so pbs kids doesn’t work without vpn)
1.) You are leaking your location over DNS or WebRTC
2.) You are leaking your location over IPV6
3.) You are using a VPN Service (and the IP-Range) that is know from the remote side
4.) A good starting point would be this :

I had a similar problem with BBC and the BBC-Player
My private VPS is located in the UK.
Was it possible to watch BBC ? No … every time the message “You are not in the UK”
After weeks of searching I found a socks5 server that works …
Find a decent IPTV that does not oversell saturate. All the TV you can watch. Yes almost every PBS is there. The only thing is you probably wont get access to the PBS video archives. PBS is better than NetFlix anyday of the week. Boost it up with a CuriosityStream subscription. Get your Learn On.
whats that? how do I make live tv work?
Your vpn provider likely also hosts dns servers, you should use those.
the vpn i usually use says they have their own internal dns servers, and become active when you connect to the vpn. All dns queries are made over the tunnel, which removes the chance of the dns queries getting leaked to your ISP or network administrators, since you won’t be able to resolve DNS if there is an issue with the tunnel.
This fixed it for me, tnx
Key issue right there “become active when you connect to the vpn” therefore it becomes inactive when the tunnel is down.
Once the tunnel is down the device can figure out where it is again via DNS queries. DNS queries are then cached on the device and used again even if the tunnel is up. This cached DNS is called a “dns leak” because it leaking your true location.
is there a way to clear it? or is there a way to prevent dns leak?
Is there a way to fix it? Yes but it might be out of scope for you.
I get the sense this is a Roku or Apple TV or something similar, your options are limited since set top boxes don’t give you a lot of configuration options. You could try resetting the device, immediately turn on the vpn, then never let the device go to sleep and never turn off the vpn but that’s still not 100%.
Your vpn provider should have how to’s but they may only apply to full fledged computers…
no no my kids use my samsung s9 with android 10 if were not home, they use the ipad air 2 with ios 15 or on their windows 11 laptop (I should’ve clarified that earlier)
Oh it’s a cellphone, they have their own dedicated gps, you might be SOL.
Give it time, changing dns serves will clear the dns cache but when the tunnel goes down it’ll figure out you’re in Canada again.
but strange thing I searched up how to clear dns on android, and it told me to change the private dns server to this: 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com
surprisingly, my phone started playing live tv again on pbs kids
So I guess I’ll keep changing the dns server then
