Is there any advantage, one way or the other, to hosting either on a VPN supported on the router, or having it hosted on a Raspberry P.i?
None, hosting it on the router just means you don’t have to forward the port.
I guess it’s easier to set up routing to the rest of the network on your router but a quick google will show you how to do that.
