Just picked up a 61F for the office last week, got it set up over the weekend and all seems well. Setup SSL VPN and it connects both on Mac and PC however only traffic is routed on PC’s my mac’s shows a successful connection but I can’t ping any IP’s on my network. After about 5min it will display “Connection Error! Can not connect to VPN server.” Anything to look out for? Tried this on multiple machines.
In addition to other suggestions, make sure that the FortiClient extension is allowed to run. Check the security and privacy settings (it’s called something like that).
The 61f is on FortiOS v6.4.3 build1778 (GA) all versions of Mac are allowed, vpn also works on iPhone and iPad.
I had this. Only certain OS versions are compatible with certain Forticlient versions. Sadly it was trial and error.
What version is the fortigate? If you happen to be at 6.4.0, there’s a bug on an mac or linix client that was exactly this (pc worked but mac didn’t). Upgrade to 6.4.1 or higher.
This was an issue for us when we moved from 6.2.6. to 6.4.1 on Mac. We were able to resolve with a new PPPC profile pushed from our mdm that allowed fmon2. It didn’t really impact vpn the way OP is mentioning though, just constantly prompted to allow the process.
Though, we’ve had plenty of other oddness with random SSL VPN not working an Mac. One specific one after a supplimental Catalina update but can’t recall which. Others revolving around credentials in keychain suddenly not working when they should still be valid. Clearing them sometimes helps resolve.
Tried that still no success, not sure what else can be tired
To expand, there is currently an issue with OSX Big Sur that will not pass traffic with forticlient. Workarounds are to roll back to previous OS version, or create a new VPN on the Fortigate that works with OSX native VPN client.
Thanks, was on mobile. To be clear, it’s not a bug, it’s just that forticlient has not yet had the changes in Big Sur incorporated. I keep hearing it should be out soon.
To be more specific, this issue is affecting IPsec VPN only for macOS Big Sur.
SSLVPN should still work, just a bit slower.
