Been doing some informal testing. VPN on my iPhone off. Sit in public location (no Wi-Fi) and clicked on three news articles that each had a video. Videos either never started or buffered horrifically. Was getting over 100meg download and upload speeds so strong signal. I turned on my express VPN on my phone and viewed the same articles. Instant smooth video. Upload/download was max of 80 with vpn on.
Not just visible, but works with several mvno. If you don’t have your own vpn server often there are some lifetime deals for $20 with unlimited monthly allowance. Not only can your stream be higher quality, but with many vpn services you can geolocate.
How does one get VPN
Nope. The speed test showed my upload/download slows with vpn on. I expected that. But based on my (limited) testing, appears that Visible throttles down video when it detects that you are streaming or viewing video. I’m guessing they deprioritize streaming traffic. But with VPN enabled, the traffic is encrypted, so they have no idea what category the traffic falls in. Thus, it doesn’t get depriotized on vpn
Streaming is capped at 2.1Mbps and 480p per their website.
This is characteristic of Verizon and its MVNO. The only provider with 2160p is T-Mobile’s Magenta Max.
But if you are on an iPhone, do you really need 2160p?
But with VPN enabled, the traffic is encrypted, so they have no idea what category the traffic falls in.
lol…might want to read up on deep packet inspection. they most certainly know you’re streaming video even when using a VPN and they absolutely can identify and target that traffic for depri. Verizon isn’t a stupid company my friend.
How do I know if it’s legit? Which one do you use
Makes sense. So those limits are removed if you use a vpn I’m guessing? Because the traffic is fully encrypted and they can’t tell if it’s streaming traffic or not
I just noticed at least with visible+ i now get about 4 megabits on fast.com That is enough for me to set my newpipe app to default to 720p to watch youtube. Of course with the level of congestion on Verizon in some areas even visible+ does not always stream stable.
T-Mobile One+ and Simple Choice have no video limit either. I think Magenta Max states capped at 2160k but the older tmo plans have no limited what so ever
No they can’t. Since the data is encrypted, these tools will not be able to identify anything besides a UDP/TCP connection. There are ways to identify if a user is using a VPN but won’t know anything else including the data. Blocking all VPNs is not an option as regular people often need to use it for work and such. Using a VPN to circumvent streaming caps is a pretty standard thing. You can search on Reddit for other instances.
Thank you for the false bullshit
You need to read up on VPNs. They CAN NOT detect it, unless the VPN is leaking the dns.
Private Internet Access. You can install on your computers and phones. About $32 a year.
I also have Google One for more storage and it includes a VPN. Start by searching ‘your phone vpn’ to see if you already have access to one.
With a VPN, cell companies can not tell what kind of traffic is going on, so you most likely are getting better than 480p streaming with a VPN.
you keep believing that. i’d suggest you read up on deep packet inspection in 2023 and layer 7 filtering as well. they don’t need to identify the specific site or data stream you are accessing inside the VPN to target and throttle/deprioritize things like video streaming EVEN INSIDE THE VPN TUNNEL. if you don’t believe this can be done, well, ignorance is bliss.
And I suggest you learn what a VPN is.
Lol. You clearly have no clue
