What do?
edit: Nevermind, I found an article stating that Netflix blocks all VPN access. Weak. Any way you people living outside of the US have found to get around this?

That’s not true. Netflix doesn’t block vpns at all. Hulu does.
However I’m using Unblock-us to do exactly what you want. Opens up a lot of content world wide. And it’s cheap.
Did you check for cookies or DNS leaks?
Myself and a many of my friends can access netflix from germany using a vpn.
Websites (Netflix) use Geolocation Providers (Maxmind, etc.), but Geolocation providers can have inaccurate information about an IP address and where it’s actually coming from.
A lot of the geo-providers feel that VPN services “cheat” the system and often will refuse to make any corrections despite a provider having proof of the correct location. Not much can be done about that. For the other providers that will work with VPN services, positive changes can be seen within a month or so, as website owners get updated database information.
You seem to be seeing the result of some providers having one set of information on your IP, and another provider or providers seeing differently.
Netflix does not block all VPN traffic they don’t block any. I regularly use my VPN on American servers as well as other foreign countries when using Netflix. As for Hotspot Shield I have had this issue too. It seems some servers get recognized as not being US based. Restarting Hotspot it will connect to a different server. If it says you are not US based just restart until you get a working US IP address. I wouldn’t anticipate you having to restart often. Reload Netflix after reconnecting to different IP to get it to work.
Thanks for the help. I deleted all cookies and received the same response.
I searched for DNS leaks and got a list of 6 servers from the same company. No idea what I should do with this info, as I’m pretty computer illiterate. Ideas?
Hm doesn’t your VPN provider have its own DNS? If not, try using Google DNS at 8.8.8.8
I haven’t exactly heard much good about HSS anyways, so take away from that what you will.
