Tennis Channel Plus app on Macbook

I was temporarily traveling out of the country and so I was using a VPN in order to be able to watch my Tennis Channel app on my Macbook. After working fine for days, the app suddenly showed an error message upon booting up and would shut down immediately — “We do not support jailbroken apps.” The app was simply downloaded from the Apple AppStore and had never tampered with, so I assume it was their way of saying they had detected my actual location, despite the VPN. How would they do that? Does the app have access to the system date/location settings? Is it possible they use those to spot VPN users who are out of the market region?

I have a similar situation when I use a VPN to connect to my home network to watch home sports while away from home. I can use for a few hours and often as not getting a “Content Not Available” message.

In my case my ISP is also the content provider. I asked if anyone could explain and the answer I got back was “they have many ways”. I suspect the answer has to do with latency. Ie high latency indicates you’re not at home. Perhaps the content provider can periodically do some sort of traceroute and see the packets ricochet too much.

Sorry, I’m no help. Hope you can work things out.

which country do you travel to?

But my AppleTV has no problem. Just the MacBook app.

I misunderstood. I thought you had a vpn client running on your MB. Does your router provide VPN connection to the internet?

I don’t see a tennis channel app for my Mac but my Mac is very old and it might not be offered for my Mac.

There are several tennis channel apps for the iPhone. One is despised in reviews.

Why does it work on the TV but not the Macbook? Ya got me! Suggest you remove, reboot, reinstall the app.

Good luck

I always had a VPN client running on the Macbook. And a separate VPN client running on the Apple TV.

Ok, I see makes more sense now. Is it the same vpn provider? Same protocol? And for curiosity which app is on your TV? Im looking at Passepartout for TV. Is there another?

yes, same for both, Private VPN

If you go to one of the VPN test sites, do you have a “leak”?

When you are using your MB, are there any other processes running? One of them may be revealing your location. You might go to Activity Monitor and endtask as many things as you comfortably can.

I’m at the end of my thoughts, here.
