Hello All,
I’m hoping someone can fact-check the approach I’m planning. I’ve just bought a GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 VPN router with the plan of having it act as a separate static IP from my main LTE router. This is due to a unique IoT use case that requires a static IP, which I do not have on my main network.
From what I understand, the logic flow should work as follows:
- Internet is provided by the main router to the GL.iNet router via Ethernet using the WAN port.
- The VPN router can be configured to act as a “client” utilizing OpenVPN or Wireguard. (I will have to use a VPN provider that offers a static IP option).
- The IoT device can be connected via the LAN port on the VPN router, thus allowing it to use the VPN network that has a static IP option.
- Sensor data from the IoT device can be sent out, and I can stop bashing my head on the wall trying to get a static IP on my main line.
Please let me know if this will work as I’ve envisioned it. I’m new to the VPN scene and only really need one for a static IP on a network separate from my main one. If you have any advice or recommendations, please do share.
Thanks in advance!
