Hi everyone!
I’m trying to setup qbittorentvpn. I have subscribed to Private Internet Access and want to use it for torrents.
I was following AlienTech42 guide to qbittorentvpn until I got to the part where he opens the web ui.
My browser couldn’t reach the UI. I tried turning the vpn option from yes to no and it opens the UI right up and I can access qbittorentvpn. But I want it to run with pia enabled to guarantee it only runs through the vpn.
I double checked my credentials and they seem to be right.
Do I need to do something with pia or my router?
I checked my ports and it doesn’t look like any other program is using 8080.
Any thoughts?
It won’t open the web UI if your vpn isn’t running. As of now your setup isn’t working. Easiest way to check is the logs of that docker contsiner. Click the container and click Logs instead of the webui option
I’ll try to make it simple:
Easiest in my opinion is openvpn setting in the docker config. I use protonvpn which each account in their settings has a specific openvpn username and password that gets put into the docker config username and password. Let me repeat that in case you’re just glancing. The username and password in the docker config is NOT my protonvpn username and password. Proton issues us each a specific openvpn username and password which is entered in here. You must also put the vpn config file in the appdata. So download your config file from pia and put it in your equivalent of /mnt/user/cache/appdata/qbittorent/openvpn/. And if this isnt something you can figure out, make a VM and put Qbit and your vpn of choice on it and go that route.
I had a similar issue, but with ProtonVPN, maybe it is related. When it came to Proton, it had extra steps when it came to credentials for both Wireguard and OpenVPN options, so just copying the configuration files was not enough to have it running.
With Proton, Wireguard had an extra parameter for my login and OpenVPN actually had a separate login and password instance generated in the settings.
If you copied all the configuration files properly try reading the documentation or run through the settings maybe PIA has the same peculiarities as Proton and requires extra parameters or something.
I got it to work. Thank you for the help!
When I try to set it to openvpn it stops the docker
Can you elaborate on the Proton extra step? I’m running into the same issue - protonvpn and qbittorrent - no webui
What was the issue? I also use PIA, but I set my entire server to run through it via my UDM. I would prefer to run just the docker though…
Also, how do you know for sure that it’s running through your vpn?
Okay I got it to start, I had privileged toggle turned off. But now I have the same problem with wireguard as I did openvpn. It won’t let me access the UI.
I got the pia user name and password and I downloaded and tried two sets of config files from pia site.
If you are using Wireguard you need to add +pmp parameter after your login and for Open VPN you have separate credentials for login and password. You should find them in VPN settings
I got to the web ui, then I used the docker console to look up the ip address and I cross referenced the address to sites that show where your ip is located.
I got mine working you just need to put the username and pass in the box.
