PSA: Your account might get locked if you buy turkish gift cards and watch from germany

Have done the whole thing, bought a gift card, extended it and only watched via VPN during the region lock time, then after the second time I extended it again with a gift card and Netlix locked our account and now they want us to use a german credit card to pay for membership even though we had a few days left still.

the days of cheap netflix are over for germans, sorry for everyone.

Don’t think you can just generalise and say the days of cheap Netflix are over for Germans. I’ve had my subscription from Turkey since 2019 and am also in Germany and pay via gift cards. Not had any issues so far. Also opened a second Turkish account a few months ago which is being used here in Germany and paid for via gift cards and so far no problems. Whatever the reason is that your account was locked I highly doubt it is solely due to you and your users being based in Germany.

Where did you buy the gift cards?

Is the account being shared with people in another country?

Yeah, Netflix has been cracking down hard on regional loopholes like this. They’re really tightening the reins to make sure people stick to their local pricing. It was only a matter of time.

I wonder if our account has accumulated a bit of “suspicion” since we used a brazilian VPN to get netflix cheap before this turkish gift card thing became popular. Do you think a new Account would make sense to have a “clean slate” ?

only my brothers and I use it and we are all from germany, it seem like you now need to occassionally watch from the location of the country you buy from but in that case I would need a VPN and I’m not paying for that honestly

I also have the impression they became more strict

It’s definitely worth a try but accounts seem to be getting closed all the time and there doesn’t seem to be any kind of pattern to it. It’s weird.

Very strange. I am in the USA, signed up for Netflix Turkey using gift cards over a year ago, and everything is still working. I only fund the account with gift cards from Turgame, no where else.

G2A and MTCGame operate like Amazon in that the sellers are 3rd party sellers. According to Turgame, they are a first-party seller of Turkish Netflix gift cards. They do not let other vendors sell on their website.

Where did you get your gift cards?

I wonder if that might have been the problem, I wasnt aware there were “good” and “bad” sellers, but in that case I thought Netflix would have said something, instead they terminated it about 4 days before the end of the month. But anyways we decided to cut down to 2 accounts since we rarely use Netflix nowadays. Back then it was just easy to buy through brazilian VPN and let it run but this is honestly a bit too much hassle for my taste

Could be a bad seller if the seller used a bad/stolen credit card to buy and re-sell gift cards?

I’m fairly certain Netflix is not targeting Turkish accounts that are being used in Germany.
