In the previous ExpressVPN version on Android (don’t know if it’s the same for iOS or PC), the app will have an icon in the status bar with an indicator that displays if it’s connected. The icon will have round arrows for when it is connecting, checkmark for when it is connected, a cross for when it is disconnected. The newest design uses the newest logo and does not have any indicator for for any of the three states.
This seems to be a poor design choice because this adds a few more swipes just to check if the VPN is connected, or fail to connect to a page only to find that vpn disconnected. I liked the old design because I can just look at the icon which is at the top of my screen.
I don’t have any issues with the newest logo and app design. In fact I’m delighted by the new colors in the app background for when it is connecting, connected, or disconnected.
Can anyone tell me why this feature was removed? Or if there’s a way to bring it back.
TL;DR I wish the new design has the old design’s status bar icon indicators.
On iPhone when connected it just shows a little rectangle that says vpn inside the rectangle next to the wifi signal thing in the upper left hand corner. This hasn’t changed at all with the new update. The little rectangle goes away when not connected.
That’s not only the new icons that are bad.
I dislike the overall redesign simply because it’s so hard to perceive.
The new logo has just 2 lines within the shape. You cannot even see them if you are impaired or have to zoom in a LOT. It’s not distinctive.
As a vision impaired, the new icon is especially hard, because I cannot perceive it by shape. It’s a weird rounded parallelogram.
I like the new design. It’s simple and intuitive. I can understand when ExpressVPN is connected when the icon is on top of my phone. When it’s disconnected, it disappears.
