Monthly VPN recommendations megathread: the only place for mentioning specific providers

Since we get a lot of asking for VPN provider recommendations, we’re making this megathread a monthly occurrence (you’ll find the newest one at the top subreddit menu). It’s a chance for you to ask for or recommend your favorite provider.

When recommending a provider, you must mention at least a couple points for why you prefer it. Don’t just list VPN features that are common knowledge - explain why you chose it. Comments simply mentioning a provider’s name aren’t allowed. No affiliate links, links to review sites, or VPN provider websites. No shilling either.

You might also want to check out our comparison table. We update it regularly so you could find a provider that ticks all your boxes. There’s also a pinned special deals thread for when you decide.

Keep in mind this megathread will still be looked after by the mods.

Mullvad, cheap and very fast. Also very private. They claim the Swedish version of the FBI/NSA raided their servers but couldn’t find anything because the only information they use to track accounts is a long string of numbers. You can also pay with cash for the service. The main reason I picked it over ProtonVPN was because of the price. It’s only $5 per month.

Looking for a provider with port forwarding (since years later the guide still doesn’t accommodate this factor). TIA for suggestions based on first-hand use/knowledge!

Mullvad or Proton? P2P use and privacy

Is there a free VPN that offers Turkish IPs? Windscribe is no longer free hence my question.

Going to China in a few days, what VPNs (don’t have to be free) work on IOS and Mac? Some websites say certain well-known VPNs are best when in China, while other sites say they don’t work at all. I would prefer a cheaper VPN, but in the end, I’ll use whatever works.

My Surfshark subscription has ended and looking to alternatives, mostly because of the huge amounts of captchas/two factors I encountered. Or is this simply part and parcel of using a VPN and if that’s an issue I should just cough up for a unique IP?

Three main factors for me are privacy/security, geohopping and would love to lose popups and be well adblocked in the process. Was looking at CyberGhost and Proton but open to suggestions.

Thanks!

I am using a new VPN app called Fast VPN (the icon is blue with a white rocket). It’s currently only available on iPhone and Mac but it’s enough for me. As the name implies, it is fast! And the annual fee is just $69.99.

So there are some websites that didn’t let you enter when u have vpn. Like if u you’re using japan vpn from somewhere else, are there vpn that bypasses tSites knows that you’re using vpn?

Looking for a VPN that offers free regional servers. The VPN itself doesn’t have to be free, just that part of its service.

Help needed picking first vpn

I wanna use a vpn for privacy, anonimity, streaming, geo restricted stuff, torrenting and gaming (altough not much).
which one should I pick? I am new in terms of using a vpn so any help is appreciated.

Any free android VPN app recommendation (Split tunneling, low battery consumption)?

Are there providers that offer something similar to a day/session pass? I only use my VPN once every month or more, it does not make sense to pay for a full month for me.

Cheap vpn for turkey, everything was 10$/year which is a good price for us.

now everything is really overpriced and we can’t buy at that price.

I’m going to China for a month and need to get around the great Chinese firewall. Any recommendations if I only need it for a month?

Sorry, I know I’m a bit late but I’m trying to find a better, cheaper VPN for my parents.

They currently use NortonVPN and I’m looking at NordVPN and other highly recommended ones, but I’m not very well versed on stuff like this, I’m more hardware than software.

If anyone could offer their help, please, because Norton is useless and my parents and I are sick of it.

Looking for a VPN to use while in China

Windscribe has port forwarding. You have to enable it through the website interface, cant in app/extensions, sadly. Also, you have to re-forward the port every 7 days. Permanent port forward is available if you pay the extra $2-8/month for a static IP.

Plenty of servers, P2P supported on all but 3. Speeds have been very good for me during my time as a subscriber.

They are running a %50 sale for the 4th of July, 1 year premium $30. Windscribe locks you in at the sale price if you auto renew/renew on time typically.

The last $30/year sale lasted a month but they did not specify how long this one will last, it looks like just until July 7th.

Other features I use that windscribe does well are split tunneling, gps spoofing(android) and the ability to double hopping with desktop app and browser extension together.

Haven’t tried static IPs yet.

Yeah, looking for a VPN with portforwarding and wireguard via linux config [plug address, port, credentials, specify wireguard vs openvpn all in docker container (ie:gluetun, etc)].

Ooh! Thanks for piggybacking, it reminded me that I needed to find not just port-forwarding, but a VPN that allows/supports it via router! (or I’d already be on Proton, since Mullvad stopped)
