Making your own VPN that can unblock content?

Hello, I’m a Software Engineering student that is, ashamedly, not the most tech savvy person. I’m trying to improve my knowledges outside of the text book. I want to make my own VPN and I’ve found a few pretty good articles on how to do that, such as this one, but the author admits that this home-made VPN " doesn’t help you bypass content restrictions. ".

I am living in a country where every site could one day, suddenly, be blocked from the general public. Including VPN services. Besides that possibility, I really want my VPN to do what a regular commercial VPN can. I think it would look quite good in my CV. I know this will take a while, but I want to take my time and learn every step of the way.

So, how do I make a VPN that will let me enter blocked sites or do things such as bypassing Netflix’s country-based content restriction? Thank you in advance.

Practically you can’t. Since you need a computer on another country(to setup the VPN server) that has unrestricted internet access.

Technically it can be done using AWS but it wouldn’t be cost effective

Part of the reason commercial VPNs are popular is that they share IPs between users without logging. This is not possible for you, and if you torrent using a vps it’ll get deleted
