Went from $99.95 to $116.95 per year. I cancelled. I’ve been fairly satisfied & was going to keep it, even tho I don’t use it much lately. The price increase was a no go for me.
I was thinking of cancelling and then thought “what would I use for a VPN instead?”. I’ll look around but I’ve been happy with EVPN for the 3 years I’ve used them.
I’m not happy about the price increase but EVERYTHING is increasing in price, this is just another result of what’s happing in the world right now.
Right there with you
I had ExpressVPN for 7 years. I live in China so it’s a must to use a VPN if you want to access most things. I would say, for the first few years, it was great. Every once in awhile (like during a national holiday) there was some blocking and the service was not available, but it always came back. I knew something was up when about 6 to 8 months ago, I would go days, even weeks, without being able to connect for any useful amount of time.
My subscription just ran out, and, as much as I need a VPN, I decided not to renew with ExpressVPN. I’m now using Astrill which is much more expensive, but I get connected every time and can access all services. I would rather pay more to be connected than pay less and not be able to use the service.
16% it’s a huge jump
I have Smart DNS Proxy on my router. It works for most but when I travel I need a reliable VPN as back up. So what would you guys recommend next?
I looked at Flashrouters and if you buy a router from them, you get NordVPN for free for a year. Sounds pretty good. Haven’t cancelled mine yet but I’ll see if they can help me set up EVPN on my new router. If not, the choice is clear.
I agree & understand 100%. If I have need for using a VPN I will definitely consider resubbing. I’ve been happy a number of years too. I’ve just not had a need & the occasional snafu’s on sites I use regularly, I only turn it on if I feel a real need. It’s simply not getting used enough to bear the price increase.
I have it on my wifi router so that all devices in my home use the VPN all the time. If a service gives me a hard time about using a VPN for access, I can setup a rule on the router to send that specific traffic without the VPN.
I would much rather have it on and turn it off if necessary than vice versa.
