Is Real Debrid the same thing as VPN? Is it recommended to have one or both?

I had kodi with add ons & cinema running for a year and it stopped working. Looking for a better way.

Just get real debrid and you’ll wish you had it all along.

You should understand the difference and similarities between both to make that decision.

  1. VPN: you’re connecting on someone else’s computer/server and accessing internet from there. (simplified)

  2. RD: you’re connecting to RD server to stream stuff. You ask it to download on their computer, so you can access it. They download it FOR you, so you don’t have to.

Both work “Remotely”. So you’re not accessing any file/website directly. Then why would you need a VPN for RD?

Your ISP knows you are accessing RD, but what is on RD and what you are watching, they can’t know.

Real Debrid isn’t the same as a VPN. Besides that, Real-Debrid’s TOS does not allow every VPN Company and/or Serverlocation.

RD is not a VPN, but for the paranoid (like me) I use both together. For stuff I enjoy regularly, it’s not a big hassle. Some older tv shows that are not as popular can be tough to get magnet links for, which the conventional VPN has to be in place to properly torrent or seed what I can download, but it’s rare. I tried Kodi, and it was ok for what it is, but better software is out there that is easier to use. My favorite is Weyd (has a subreddit), but it’s only for 64 bit Android devices (or emulators like Nox, which is another favorite on my PC). I’m learning Streamio, but still haven’t yet got the setup I would like yet, and it just came out with a web interface I would like to try as well. If you can spare the cash (it’s not much), Weyd is a very good sub to have if you need something simple and reliable to work with RD, AD, etc. Keep a torrent friendly VPN (I use Surfshark) as a backup.

They do completely different things.

Debrid services give you encrypted access to any content your heart desires to download or stream from many file hosters, countles streaming sites, cached torrents or regular torrents. Your ISP will see you connecetd to the Debrid site, but cannot see what you download or stream while using RD,. The ISP can see you accessing any other site on the internet.

Virtual Private Networks hides your identity regardless of what site you access on the internet. Your ISP will see you connecetd to the VPN, but cannot see what are you doing, what sites you access, download or stream.

At first glance both services seem to complete each other, however Debrid services do not play nicely with most VPNs. Only certain VPNs are guaranteed to work while using a debrid service. You need to check the list of the desired/accepted VPNs for each Debrid service you wish to use

Ok. I just bought RD a few days ago, was confused also, and was in the process of researching a VPN to purchase. So thank you for responding that a VPN isn’t necessary as I don’t want to get banned.

wow thank you for that clear explanation… i didn’t know that about RD myself

You’re helping a gang of us with that breakdown. Funny, I’ve been a subscriber since 2016. until now never had a clue that’s how those worked exactly but I know Real Debrid solved my lagging. Freezing & buffering. Coupled. With fiber optic i got wirelessly to the router and no more Ethernet. it was my understanding that real bridge insured that you got all the best links and if you’re a member it also does that for prime time

Literally speaking, it’s not a VPN. But what it does for you is like a VPN but for downloading/streaming torrents.

You download torrents on someone’s server, then stream it. Functions “like” a vpn for torrents. That’s why you don’t need one.

You can configure stremio’s add on torrentio with real debrid, it has been a goated set up so far.

How much is “not much”? Also don’t they have a device limit?

to simplify, you don’t need a VPN when using RD. The connection you have from your home device to the RD CDN is encrypted. Which means someone looking at your traffic at the network level can only see that you are connecting to RD but cannot see what you are doing.

A debit card linked to a no fee account. Only has money in it to pay for things like RD or Surfshark.

16 Euros for 6 months of Real Debrid. That’s about $17 USD. No device limit but you can only use the devices on one IP address simultaneously. i.e. You can use RD on many devices at home at the same time, but you can’t use any device away from home at the same time it’s being used at home.

Hey man I know this is from a year ago, but question: I have one tv and fire stick in the living room and the other set up in the bedroom. If I’m using RD / torrentio/ stremio, do I use my VPN too? RD has gotten iffy these past few weeks so I’m not sure how much content will be coming from RD moving forward. I also read that RD doesn’t allow multiple IP addresses? But doesn’t that mean you can’t use a VPN with them at all, or risk being banned? I’m confused on this last part

You don’t need to use a VPN a with RD but I use a VPN on one Firestick and often forget to turn it off before watching something with RD. My wife can be watching on another TV with no issues. RD a is working fine, just less links that it used to have due to no longer having cached torrents. It’s still better than the alternatives
