That’s what I use w/o a problem.
Talk to support at Express VPN or return
Then yes, I use the VPN client on my Firewalla router to put all of my computers through a NordVPN server.
Edited to add: I have the round dish, so I don’t have the Starlink router in the loop (or even know where it is).
Have to bypass to use third party router
When Starlink is in Bypass mode, I do not have internet on my ExpressVpn Linksys router. Seems to work ok if not in bypass mode.
I have V1 round dishy so I just removed the Starlink router completely
Based on this I think it might help to try resetting the Linksys router to factory defaults and make sure it works connecting the WAN port to the Starlink Ethernet adapter (put in a small gigabit switch in between if you’ve got one to make sure that’s not causing problems) and then connecting to the Linksys router. Once you get that working work on the ExpressVPN setup
I have a Linksys router with express vpn firmware. Not very impressed for what that is worth. I am starting to look at the Dream Machine for the next router as I want the guest network capability along with the VPN which I am told it does.
Then yes its possible- you need to have your own router that’s all - not possible with the starlink supplied router.
For newer rectangular dishy - you need a Ethernet adaptor also
No you don’t. Since you’re running all your traffic over the VPN anyways you won’t even notice the double NATed connection. Should work perfectly.
Just connect it to the expressvpn router WAN port and leave Starlink in the normal router mode. New router gets a local IP from Starlink and used that to setup the VPN connection.
Yeah, that’s weird because I’m using starlink in bypass and it works perfectly fine. They must be doing something weird with their dhcp requests or something.
See if you have an ip address assigned when in bypass mode.
Thank you, did this earlier and seems to working good now. I had seen all the info on having to bypass Starlink Router to use third party router, and thought that was the way to go.
But now I have 3 wifi signals close together. Is there a way, and should I try to turn off Starlink wifi?
Sorry, what do you mean?
No need, so long as the routers are more than around 12" apart (2 wavelengths at 2.4GHz) there should be no interaction.
Here I have at times 3 wifi hotspots on the same rack (Starlink, Bell 5G, Bonded connection WiFi), never had an issue.
Setup bypass mode plug the wan of your expressvpn router into the starlink router then login to the expressvpn and see if it’s getting an address on the wan port.
Hmm, my routers are literally kissing each other. Maybe I need some sort of condom over starlink router to prevent accident?
Linksys + Starlink = LinkLink ?
Ideally turn off one. Not a dealbreaker but lot ideal. And at least try to give them some separation so they don’t interfere. Once you get the Linksys working with the Starlink in regular mode you should be able to migrate over to bypass.
Every time I try to bypass. I lose internet to my linksys. Need the linksys wifi, not the starlink.
Will have to keep experimenting I guess.
There has to be something wrong with your Linksys config, I’m very curious what the issue could be. Do you have a cellular connection you could tether off of and we could troubleshoot this over the phone? If you’re into it I’m happy to volunteer the time just to satisfy my curiosity and knowledge.
For context, I normally get paid well to solve these types of problems
