So i have no wifi and completely rely on my mobile data for internet . While using laptop , i share my mobile hotspot with it . Mostly there is no problem but sometimes , the internet will be teribly slow on my lap , but on my phone , it still has great speed . On such occasions , i have observed that internet will be a lot more faster while using VPN . I have tested my internet speed to verify this observation (without vpn the speed was around 1 mp/s and with vpn it was around 12 download speed). What on earth is happening here ? and is there any way i could fix this ? Also my laptop is lenovo thinkpad e14.
Most likely your mobile operator is throttling data but somehow their filters are not catching your VPN.
The only answer is to call the network up and ask what is happening, they are the only ones who have access to the logs and can see what is wrong.
If you call them up and they are throttling, your VPN may slow afterwards if they notice its not being throttled.
Now you have to decide if you want to take that chance.
Agreed. Often they just use something like packet TTL to differentiate phone vs hotspot data and throttle the hotspot data to keep people from using it as their primary internet. The VPN must be bypassing their filter for some reason.
Personally wouldn’t bring attention to it myself ; )
