I was going to subscribe to the Avast VPN but…
at least they are transparent about what they collect from you, unlike many others out there saying “we keep zero logs period”
It actually sounds a lot better than most of the services out there.
Don’t see a problem with any of this. Any service that doesn’t allow infinite connections has to monitor how many connections there are per account.
What’s wrong with what they collect? It sounds like a responsible company… that way, they can plan for future capacity expansion; otherwise, you would be complaining about how slow their service has become.
At least they are much more honest than mainstream VPN services. (I wouldn’t subscribe to Avast tho)
That looks clean & simple.
I see nothing wrong with this. This is how you manage a vpn service.
Avast is a sketchy company. I recommend to stay away.
The amount of data transmitted
Who wants to take bets that this data is timestamped?
I don’t see a problem with this
This is a common practice.
Why do they keep any of it?
So because they admit they’re spying on you that makes it okay?
i would prefer a transparent VPN service that states all their terms and conditions beforehand instead!
Right, because the other services are doing the same, just aren’t saying as much.
How else are VPN providers going to gauge capacity if they don’t?
Law enforcement can connect these things to you if they really want to put in the effort. If you’re not using it for anything too sketchy, then you’ll be fine. Stuff like pirating will be fine, since that’s more effort than anyone cares to catch a low level pirate. If you use it to commit major crimes, then they might be able to trace it back to you by connecting those dots.
Their AV has also gone to shit ages ago. it used to be pretty lean with a decent UI but then they made it all bloaty by adding a ton of unnecessary features. They also bought out a really good program called CCleaner and it got infected with malware under their supervision. How does an AV company allow one of their programs to get malware?
What’s sketchy about them?
It’s probably rolling logs of bandwidth utilization, yes, so what? They need to know peak usage times to manage their infrastructure.
They specifically say they’re not storing your IP address, if they are not lying here there is no connection between data use and user, just number of connections and total system bandwidth. You need both of those to prevent someone from just posting their credentials here and letting the world use their one subscription and to manage/scale hardware to support customers.
You sound like you’re griping, so what’s your gripe?
