How to connecting MacBook to Samsung phone’s VPN (with PIA) via Hotspot?
Tethering on Android bypasses any VPN on the device.
One way you can go about this is with one (or two) apps:
NetShare - Creates a Wifi-Direct Hotspot and gives you a simple proxy server to use. (Free up to a certain amount of data transfer IF you use the built-in proxy server) (You can fumble around with built-in wifi direct, but this makes it insanely easy)
EveryProxy - Simple HTTP/SOCKS server, can be used in conjunction with NetShare. (100% Free)
Using this method, only change you would need to make is to configure your macbook (Or individual apps) to use your phone as a proxy server.
Another way you can approach this, is through Clockworkmod Tether (This requires USB Debugging to be enabled on the phone, and an ADB wrapper program provided by CWM to be installed on the macbook. This also requires a USB cable.)
Both listed methods will send traffic from your macbook (And any hotspot connected device using your phone as a proxy) through the VPN connection.
Hope this helps.
(Edits: Corrected some info)
I have a MacBook who’s settings I shouldn’t change nor install anything on it.
I have Samsung phone with PIA installed and on, and phone’s hotspot turned on.
Phone shows PIA IP address.
Connecting Macbook to the phone’s hotspot, shows phone’s original IP address.
Is it possible to connect a device to phone’s hotspot that goes through VPN?
Thanks a lot, I’ll give NetShare a try. I can’t install anythin on MacBook (Clockworkmod)
In that case, the first method of a tether proxy is going to be your best bet.
If you want to run 100% free, Use EveryProxy with NetShare. NetShare only limits how much data is transferred using it’s internal proxy server in the free edition. It does not limit other traffic not using that proxy (Such as to other apps)
