How is Cloudflare WARP different from a VPN ? What guarantees do I get with WARP

This is not true anymore, when I use WARP, my IP is different.

“What’s my IP” websites, return a Cloudflare IP.

isp do that too, or do they encrypt ip address from websites?

CF made some changes to WARP in Aug 2022 this year. As a result when you connect through WARP your real IP is hidden behind the CloudFlare IP. Previously this was not the case.

This was done to provide accurate geo-location results for WARP users, by allocating blocks of anycast CF IPs to certain geographical locations.

Yeah. 1.1.1.1 is a DNS but WARP is a VPN that is faster than the competition.

True! I wanted to post this but I actually came here to find what protocol they used. Do you know which?

Xd, what prompt did you use? Also hiding the message is done by https so That would suggest warp is useless

Everything else I’m reading suggests that WARP hides your IP as of Aug 2022. Is that no longer the case?

You say this on a sub named the same.

While that is often why people use retail VPNs, hiding your IP address is not part of the definition of a VPN or a necessary characteristic of one.

Not true anymore, you use a Cloudflare IP when you’re connected to WARP

it has dns and you can test it yourself

Well warp doesn’t hide your ip from the torrent swarm, your local ip displays on torrent. So if the owner of that movie is also seeding or downloading that torrent he can see your ip, pretty sure that’s one way people get caught.

Correct. They changed this in August, 2022. They have a blog post about it and it’s also reflected in Cloudflare Docs.

Subscribe to Warp Plus in the 1.1.1.1 mobile app. You’ll be able to use the same upgraded license key across other devices as well.

It’s free, the initial setup might be a bit of a hassle but apart from that, you can easily add quite a bunch of devices.

Technically yes. They have logs but follow best practices for deleting them after x time. They do not sell the logs though, even for the free service. Privacy was the main reason they launched this.

The paid service makes it possible so the free service to not sell your data

Cloud flare doesn’t hide your IP address if the site uses cloud flare.

And of course, if they receive a warrant for your log files, they would have to comply, so no illegal activity.

Very likely that they are using HTTPS inspection so watch it if you are using a managed device or they got you to install a certificate/any applications on your personal device (which they absolutely shouldn’t imo).

Yes, but only if you also use DNS over HTTPS or DNS over TLS. Both of which warp supports. They also support DNS over WARP. Whatever that means.
