Since they shut down all their India servers, how are they providing an India IP address?
thats the neat part. they’re not
They aren’t, you can’t access India content with Nord anymore thanks to that stupid law
im sure surfshark would be making the same move very soon then. if not then your privacy is compromised usimg india servers
So basically VPN in India now stands for Virtual Public Network
To be clear, it’s not just Nord. Any reputable VPN provider will no longer be offering VPN services in India because it’s a privacy nightmare.
no doubt, however, the situation today remains as stated - surfshark provides indian ip, nord doesn’t.
surfshark says ‘really?’
I allowed (forced!) my nord account to expire due to the removal of indian servers. no issues connecting as a mumbai-ite with surfshark - my nba league pass login remains indian
Surfshark and Nord are owned by the same company, so I’m surprised you can log into servers located in India.
I don’t use Surfshark, only Nord, but Nord pulled their servers in India for the reason mentioned above.
Keep in mind, that if you’re logging into any Indian servers, then everything you’re doing on those servers had to be logged and tracked as per the new laws there.
Surfshark virtual server is in Austria for India not sure if this really would help you.
Surfshark and Nord are owned by the same company, so I’m surprised you can log into servers loc
switched from nord to ss about a week ago, and india is still available - as for ‘privacy’, I use it for geoblocked access and value propositions for streaming services (ala nba league pass) so I have no issue with indian gov agencys being aware that I watch basketball.
/the point remains, indian servers are available on surfshark.
edit to add: having ‘checked’, the indian servers do have the word ‘virtual’ amended (along with the albania servers, etc) so perhaps that indicates some obfuscation or tunnelling, however, nba are happy to consider me indian when I log into league pass, and they won’t do that if I don’t originate from an ipblock they recognise as indian.
that’s good to know, I responded elsewhere that I’m able to still log into my indian nba league pass account with ss, whereas using any other ‘endpoint’ would fail my account login (hence shifting over to surfshark).
I use India vpn for league pass as well. My nord renewed over a month ago but I didn’t know about the server removals (off-season obviously). Such a bummer.
you have my commiserations. you can cancel your ‘indian’ international league pass and try south american (I believe the nba is offered cheaply in some of those countries), so nord isn’t a waste of money - pretty sure there is a list maintained somewhere on reddit of ‘best value countries for streaming services’.
Yeah if I can’t get a refund I will try to look for a cheaper country. Nord was especially useful on my chrome cast tv because it had an app and a whitelist so I could just launch the nba league pass app without fiddling with anything.
