Going to college, how do I route traffic through my home wifi so college cant moniter what i do?

As title suggests im going to college, i want to set up a home VPN off of a rasberry pi so they cant moniter what im doing 24/7, how can i go about this? is this possible?

college is an hour and a half away from my house

YouTube Tailscale

—Autoupdate
—exit node
—subnet router

Tailscale if your home router can’t do port forwarding. Direct wireguard VPN for fastest speeds and security if you can.

Possibly easiest way?:

  • Site to site is probably easiest. You can setup the Pi as a router. And your university can be the “ISP”

  • Setup a site to site vpn from your pi to your home.

  • Profit!

Lastly: Why? Why are you wanting to hide your traffic?

NOTE: If your university has a 1/10th of a decent It department you will get a knock on your door.

Wouldn’t pivpn be perfect for this?

Some good answers, another approach is SSH tunnel + dynamic proxy.

Shadowsocks or wireguard for self hosted solutions. Speed is not going to be affected much, they r very efficient even on very old hardware.

Tailscale it. Pretty easy to setup and low maintenance.

This looks like exactly what I wanted, thank you

My router can’t do port forwarding and it It is also CGnat

I don’t like the idea of them being able to see what I’m doing and I don’t like their internet policy

The tailscale is a great choice. You’ll need to configure the Pi as an exit node.

I mean what exactly in particular? You do realize DMCA will still apply at the end of the tunnel if that’s what you’re hinting at?

I’d rather my houses ISP have that type of traffic than the college, they pay attention more

Ok well best of luck. Hope you understand what you are doing/trying to achieve.

At the end of the day your traffic can still be found.

I don’t think you’ll be satisfied with a VPN speed wise. If you elaborate more there might be a more optimal solution.

What can i elaborate on? I just don’t want the college to see my internet activity easily

You want them to see it - just not easily?
