I’m preparing to travel to Vietnam soon and I’ve encountered an issue while testing my VPN setup.
I connected my VPN router (from USA) to a Vietnamese VPN server with the OpenVPN protocol, but I’m only getting speeds of 10 Mbps for both download and upload, which is significantly lower than my non-VPN speed of 170 Mbps in the US.
I’m concerned that when I move to Vietnam and connect to a US server, I might experience similarly slow speeds. I’ve tested both OpenVPN and WireGuard, but the speeds are very close to the same. My company might detect wireguard so i dont wanna wisk it. I’ll stick with OpenVPN, so switching protocols isn’t an option for me.
Could anyone share their experiences with internet speeds in Vietnam, especially when using a VPN to connect to servers in the US? Any tips or suggestions to improve my VPN speed would be greatly appreciated.
Here I am thinking this might be an interesting insight into VPN and internet around the world woop nope just someone trying to get themselves fired again.
I was in Vietnam in February. I did not need to use a VPN (very few sites are blocked, and I did not meet any restrictions), and both Hotel Wi-Fi (Hanoi) and mobile worked great, with data rates 100Mb+.
I have 500/500Mb in my apartment in China, typ—50-150Mb with VPN. Mobile phones often work better than wired Internet. Cheap VPNs don’t work or are unreliable in China.
My company might detect wireguard so i dont wanna wisk it.
Your company can also detect the OpenVPN protocol as easy as the WireGuard protocol.
If you believe you are safe from your company’s spying eyes, your are in for at nasty surprise.
Thank you for the info.
Idk why people suggest me to use openvpn for company laptops. They said it’s more compatible to most companies and wireguard might give them some kinds of alerts?
I tried connected to nearby countries there like Cambodia, Thailand, etc. And got similar results, around 10 mbps.
I tried just using nordvpn app directly on my personal laptop and not vpn router, got the same speed. Tried wireguard too and got the same speed. Lol
So I then tried proton vpn and experience a Lil bit worse. I honestly don’t know if this is my isp. I use xfinity

I don’t think the OP will last more than 24 hours before they get fired.
Got to think of Donald Trump’s favorite expression:
“You’re fired !”.
And I also need to connect to a vpn US location server from Vietnam when I get to Vietnam too. So I can’t just pick the fastest vpn server either.
