Fast (paid) VPN with Port Forwarding and SOCKS5

I am setting up a new server and just picked up a new ISP (Quantum Fiber) and want to set up a clean *arrs stack with VPN for qbt. My connection is 3GB so I want to ensure it’s something that can handle a decent speed. I am NOT looking for something free.

I have ProtonVPN, but I do not know if they allow port fowarding or support SOCKS5. I use it on my desktop for work sometimes, and so I don’t know if I could have it active on my server at the same time or not.

Are there any that allow you to share login? I’d like to share the VPN with my father if possible, not not a deal breaker.

I’m using PIA. It’s good enough for 300/300 but AirVPN might be a better bet for you with 3G/3G

You could use proton duo if you want him to have his own emails and password manager and such. I don’t think any VPN has socks5, but proton does allow port forwarding. Why do you need socks5?

Have you tried Surfshark? They offer great speeds and port forwarding options!

I can saturate my 1Gbps connection with PIA or Proton, with AIR I got 400-500 at best.

No socks5 on proton as far as I know, if it does I’m sorry I haven’t found it. But so far no bandwidth lost on it

I thought you needed SOCKS5 to get a VPN to work with qBittorrent.

I COULD set Proton up in a docker contained in Portainer and run all my traffic through it, the couple private trackers I am on allow VPN, but I heard that VPNs cause issues with updating images.

I thought you needed SOCKS5 to get a VPN to work with qBittorrent. Otherwise I don’t know how to get it to run qith qbt w/o running all traffic through the VPN. Which might not be a horrible idea, I don’t think I use any trackers currently that disallow it, but I am trying to get onto a few others that are more strict.

No, you don’t need sucks 5 for qBittorent

Nope!! If you use socks5 you can’t use private trackers, and you always have trackers some public, some private but private you need to apply or get invited. The private one I use I can’t use socks5 but i use proton
