I have a paid for VPN, known to be fairly reliable but there was a successful login to my email and I don’t remember if it was me (wrong IP) or if it was someone getting into my account on the first try or the VPN switching to a different city in Canada (next province) and it was me logging in.
If you have 2FA, you don’t have to wonder about it since any successful login would come from you.
No, VPNs don’t switch locations automatically unless configured to do so. Check your VPN settings and review login activity to confirm if it was you
Have you checked your VPN logs to see if it automatically switched servers during the time of your login?
If you’ve set it to fastest location that’s usually local. But if that node is very busy then it might switch to a nearby faster one.
It’s not unusual. A good VPN will have redundancy in place with their servers, Data Centers and Internet Service Provider.
The ISPs in my area never show my exact city, but are generally within 20 miles. But I’ve even seen my IP show up in the next largest city across state lines.
They might have been doing maintenance, or connection may have dropped, both of which would cause a failover to another IP which could show up in another area close by.
So, I wouldn’t worry about it. But you can always change your password just to be safe.
I didn’t unfortunately but I do now.
I will try that, thank you.
