Disable VPN connection remotely?

I’ll start of by saying that I know I am an idiot and that this was a rookie mistake I shouldn’t have made. Anyway, it happened, so I am hoping to find some help in fixing it if possible.

I was logged into an Ubuntu machine remotely and downloaded the free version of ProtonVPN to test it out. As soon as I activated the VPN, I lost access to my remote session. Is there any way to remotely kill the VPN on that box, or to somehow get my NoMachine session to connect to it through the VPN? Or am I just going to have to wait until I am on-site to access it again?

You can change your VPN login credentials and see if that will disconnect the VPN session. And hopefully you did not have killswitch enabled.

That depends on if the killswitch is enabled by default. I didn’t change it. Either way, I changed my password, and still no access. Oh well, I’ll just get to it in a few days.

I don’t think the killswitch is on by default.
