When I use the wifi (for laptop, phone and fire stick) all my content is blocked due to Sportsnet perceiving me being outside of Canada, yet my IP location shows as Vancouver, BC. and my physical location is elsewhere in British Columbia.
If I use cellular data then I can stream no problem; as soon as I’m on the wifi it says I’m outside Canada.
Only happens with Sportsnet and none of my other streaming services so I’m not sure if the issue is solely on their end or if there’s something on my end causing it or a bit of both.
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? It’s been happening for two days now
“If you are having trouble using Starlink with a specific provider mostly (like youtube tv for example), please send the following to their support center: “Dear YouTube TV, I experienced issues accessing content that is geolocation restricted on Starlink internet. I was provided the following information to relay to you to help resolve this: Starlink is a new global Internet Service Provider and our IPv4 address space is continuously expanding. Per RFC 8805, Starlink’s Self-Published IP Geolocation Feeds can be found at the following link for machine consumption: https://geoip.starlinkisp.net/feed.csv. This is currently being ingested at a regular schedule with major geolocation providers. If you maintain a local geolocation database, we request that you update your geolocation records per the self-published feed or utilize the major geolocation providers.”
Also I just found out monster energy super cross does this as well ! Can’t stream if off the starlink but will run on my local internet? Why’s is this ?
Why should you forward this information, starlink should be able to update their geographic IP subnet to the internet registrar. No service provider will help you. My advise is to check your geographic IP location from whoer.net. If your location is not Canada on the website then Starlink need to fix their issue.
Thanks for this! I was having a similar issue with a Disney+ show that my in-laws could stream 10 miles away. I’m om with Disney+ support now. Will update if this works with them.
Problem is I run my starlink router straight to my ps5 wich automatically assigns all the good stuff I have a open ticket with starlink and so far they have asked me to make sure my modem is connected??? I am eagerly awaiting a response to my last ticket
I checked a few times Starlink info in APNIC ARIN, it was up-to-date. So OP would most likely still have to bug the service provider. RFC 8805 is better as it’s more granular (state/provinces/territories/etc).
You got it wrong. Starlink is not at fault here, they indeed do have correct IP geolocation entries registered for all their PoPs. The problem is, that many online streaming (and other) services are using 3rd “cheapo” replicas of official IP geolocation tables, which are often out of date due to lack of regular updates.
Hadn’t heard anything for a couple days so I went back on the support chat today with Sportsnet and gave them the info posted above about updating the geolocation list etc
They told me to go to iplocation.net and there the geolocation of my ip is listed as California.
When you click on details it shows that iplocation uses DB6 to determine my geolocation as California but several other sites using “API, or full” have determined the geolocation to be Vancouver
So SN has told me that the issue is with the geolocation provided by my ISP and I must have them change it.
Awaiting another response from tech support as my issue has been elevated up a level from my initial enquiry
Rogers/Sportsnet says Starlink needs to update their location.
Starlink said tell Rogers/SN to update their location list manually; then said try a VPN and closed the ticket.
Since the feed quality on the SN app has been so spotty during games I just switched over to watching hockey on the NHL app.
I will look into the VPN situation at some point but right now it’s not a huge priority since 90% of what I used SN for was hockey games… hopefully this doesn’t come up with any other services.
Also to note, Starlink recommends shutting down Dishy for 20 minutes, then restarting so it generates a new IP address but that didn’t work for me either.
