Blink app no longer supports VPN use

I am SO ANGRY. I have used a VPN for several years to protect my information. I have a blink doorbell, blink module, blink tilt camera, and two blink mini cameras as well. The app has worked FINE since I moved into my apartment in May, but on August 14, it stopped letting me do live views of inside my apartment. I have cameras inside because my dog has degenerative myelopathy which is essentially ALS for dogs and I need to be able to see her when I’m not in the same room with her. On August 14, I went to take the trash out and found that I couldn’t do a live view on any of my cameras. Blink support has come back and said that the app no longer supports the use of VPNs which is RIDICULOUS because why do they get to decide how I secure my wireless network? They should be ashamed of themselves. I am disabled and have spent a lot of money (to me) to set up blink cameras and a blink doorbell and now they are essentially useless. They are also past the return date. So I’m just stuck with equipment I can’t even use. The phone number the blink support team gave me to contact Amazon customer service doesn’t ever get me to a live person and will only let me select my last three purchases from the menu. It is NOT ok that blink is doing this!!!

It has never worked for me on any VPN, for years.

I have it as the single excluded app with the Google VPN.

Most VPNs allow you to exclude apps if they don’t work right.

I use NordVPN and Blink cameras works fine for me. I use IP addresses from different countries.

Surfshark works for me.

Does anyone have a rules.v4 line item on a linux router that would allow blink cameras to pass through unharrassed? I use wireguard vpn with hoppy and i still cant find a workaround.

I’m using mullvad vpn with the same problem unless I am on the same time zone then it works

It’s due to a US government ‘note’ reminding companies that they must not allow service to any of the prohibited countries.

Allowing known VPNs would make it difficult to comply.

NordVPN is configured on my router. I don’t think there is way for me to exclude apps from that but I’d be happy to hear ideas about how to do that!

It’s been hit or miss with Nord. Some servers work, others don’t. If I have an issue loading videos, I just disconnect and reconnect. Mixed success rate.

I have NordVPN configured on my router. It’s not exactly easy to switch the IP address around.

Thank you but I’ve already paid for a NordVPN subscription (I’ve been using them for years) and already spent more money than I should have on a NordVPN configured router.

I have Surfshark and cant access recodings or liveviews using Surfshark, how do you get it to work>. I have bypassed blink.com and blinkforhome.com

Unfortunately can’t help you with that, but if I were to guess, you’re SOL with that router.

Is NordVPN just for security, or any specific purpose? If it’s just for general security, any router nowadays should be fine, especially if they can auto-update (I use Nest WiFi which does that). I then just use VPN on some individual devices, where I can exclude apps.

You talking about viewing on your phone?

It’s for both security and other specific purposes. I wanted to just configure my existing router with NordVPN but spectrum doesn’t allow that.

On my iPhone I have VPN on all the time. I use Surfshark and can view Blink Cameras, Ring Doorbell, DLink Cameras without issue. Not sure. I’m in :canada: if that helps.

Thanks. I will try connecting to vpn in Canada. This is what I got from support at Surfshark

regarding the issue you are facing with your Blink application, It looks like Blink uses port forwarding and Surfshark currently doesn’t offer a port forwarding feature. This decision was made with your security in mind. Opening a port means creating a hole in your cybersecurity that would allow access to your devices, hence making you more vulnerable to cyberattacks and other online threats.

I connected my VPN through Canada and now it work, very strange. Thanks for your help.
