I am a current McAfee total protection customer but I would like to try Bitdefender for a change. I would appreciate any feedback on this like is it easy to download and run and it’s overall protection.

Bitdefender is pretty much the best protection you can get on the market and often times very affordable if bought during various sales. I’ve played with McAfee with the free licenses that come with AT&T Internet and it was way to feature sparse and just meh to me. In the last couple of years McAfee has gone the way of Webroot and everything is cloud based so it has become a lot less buggy and heavy on your computer that earned it a terrible reputation, but Bitdefender still outmatches it in features and protection ability. McAfee seems like it was designed to be “AV for dummies”, Bitdefender is middle of the pack with plenty of setting and features to tune it to your liking but not be overwhelming, ESET was so many settings it was overcomplicated and required reading an entire hundred page guide to sorta understand what to do.
Hi I been using it for two years now. Bitdefender has one of the best protection and detection rate.I have a gaming PC so I don’t really noticed any slowdowns. I value that it doent spam we with ad notifications etc only with stuff related to protection. Free version of it is offering same malware detection and protection as a paid version so give it a try it’s pretty easy to set up and install.
Initial scan and setup can slow down even badass computers, but once that is done you will forget it’s there. I’m on Mac.
Ok, fans. One last question today. Can I perform the removal of the old virus software and installation of the new one with VPN on? I have a separate VPN program not provided by McAfee.

Both products rate well at AV-Test. McAfee’s quick scan is reasonably quick; BD’s is slow. OTOH, BD lets me know when anything accesses my microphone or camera, which MA did not do. Hourly updates to BD are slow. Full scans are about on par with MS Defender and McAfee. The most important, though, is BD’s quick reaction time to malware—very fast. I switched to BD after years with MA, thanks to their tsunami of advertising for an upgrade. BD tends to be more discreet.
A bit resource intensive (> 1 GB of RAM) and spawns a ton of processes in the background but it mostly gets the job done. I say almost as it does miss some threats detected by other products, especially zero-day ones.
Do you love constant pop-ups from the system tray letting you know when your internet security software “blocks a potential threat”? You will absolutely love Bitdefender.
ESET is complicated?
ESET is straight to the point with a well designed & simple interface and configuration. The same can’t be said about Bitdefender, that has a “childish” UI, and is extremely bloated in terms of features while being limited in the config side.
You can also turn off those marketing notifications off under Bitdefender settings.
My theory is that it uses more RAM to not use the CPU as much.
I have 32GB and it uses around 700MB to 800MB

Sounds like you have adware or something installed. I don’t get this and never have.

I actually done some personal testing and it was quite the opposite, with Eset being better and also alot more resource usage efficient. So, to me at least, what some reviews on YouTube say is quite irrelevant.
I am currently considering Eset as a replacement for Bitdefender, due to it’s rather poor performance on both counts (zero day detection rate + resource usage)
No it was notifications from Bitdefender software pestering me like an insecure millennial seeking validation. I contacted support and there was no way to turn it off so I cancelled and uninstalled
Much rather prefer BitDefender over ESET any day.
