Best VPN for streaming services

Hi all,

for a while I was scouting reddit looking for the best vpn for streaming services and finally i’m posting myself to share my two cents!

I’m a netflix, disney + and hbo max user and like the majority of others, i like to explore the libraries of other countries. Before streaming services became my main source of content (movies, series as i finally dropped my cable contract last year) I didn’t know much about vpns, hence i scouted reddit.

I think reddit is a platform where people have extra strong opinions and priorities, so finding consensus on which vpn is the best was almost impossible lol. Taking the advantage of free trials (technically, the 30 day money back guarantee, it’s a bit of a hassle, but you just gotta be persistent and keep saying that you don’t need it anymore), I gave a shot to several most recommended.

Many love Mullvad, it seems great for security, but I found that for streaming it’s not so good. It’s not the fastest and compared to some of the other providers the number of servers is on the lower side. All in all I give it 6/10

I also read a a thread where OVPN was recommended a lot, I feel like it’s not a very big name. It actually works pretty good, but once again they do not have that many locations. It’s fast, it unlocks netflix libraries well, but yeah location list is a bummer. I might be able to look past that, but it’s also very pricey compared to others, so in the end it was a no from me. I’d say it’s still 8/10. Note: the refund policy is 10 days!

Many recommended nordvpn, but as I was looking around I saw that it’s merged with Surfshark which is cheaper than nord, but service seems to be just as good. It has over 3000 servers so locations are not a problem, it’s fast and so far i haven’t had any issues. Given the price and the quality, i give it 9/10 (as none of the vpns are perfect), that’s the one I stuck with.

Anyways, if you don’t feel like listening to me, my recommendation is to pay attention to number of locations, support availability and reviews on reddit while choosing your vpn for streaming.

Let me know which one you use and share your experiences! May this thread become useful for future searchers.

Streaming Services + VPN’s is always going to be a cat and mouse game. One day they will work and the next they wont and then Rinse and Repeat. No VPN will be a 100% non detected against Streaming Services…Eventually the Streaming Platforms find out and then block. It’s pretty much a revolving door

I’ve gotten a streaming ip from TorGuard and had a great experience actually. When I bought the streaming IP they had me message support and tell them which streaming services I was trying to use and they assigned me an IP address that would work with it. (I believe shared.) And if it stopped working they would change it.

No perfect solution. Game of cat and mouse with streaming providers. Of all the ones I did try kept ProtonVPN. Not perfect but workable and rock solid for reliability. I run two direct access via my pfSense server and never see any down time. For cases where the streaming provider do not like a VPN connection I have a wireless connection that bypasses the VPN. Is all a big compromise.

Does anyone have any experience with Private Internet
Access VPN ?

Incredible that the best vpn’s for streaming are not even mentioned.

Top ,Windscribe , Express Vpn (some countries will not work) , on netflix , prime video , and finally Proton Vpn .

These are the best.

what do you mean by this?

I’ve been using NordVPN for a few years and specially for streaming and it always works. I even built a website to check the availability of movies and tv shows for vpn user: streamwithvpn.com

What does this mean exactly when they block it? I’m trying to watch a movie that’s only available on Paramount Plus in the UK, but they want me to sign up for a fresh Paramount Plus account since my American login doesn’t work. Same thing for HBO max.

Might try this! Can you pm me the info?

Whoa… please pm me lol… I need that

Have you tried proton? I’m considering either CyberGhost or proton. How was your experience with CG?

I was with them for a year. I can’t stream Netflix now and I can’t even log into some of my apps without turning Nord off. Or maybe I’m doing something wrong?

Look for this: https://youtu.be/8MHBMdTBlok

Any thoughts on CyberGhost? I’m about to get either CyberGhost or proton exclusively to stream US content from outside the US. any recommendation?

Recommended VPNs are Mullvad, iVPN, ProtonVPN.

Just look who the owner is and what security experts are saying.

SurfShark and NordVPN are selling subscriptions for almost no costs. And for 2 years. And they spend thousands of dollars for advertisements on tv/radio/web. How do you think this will be payed?

Its common sense, that it is simply not possible to have that much users paying almost nothing, spend thousands of dollars for advertising and make lots of money.

Or do you have a better explanation how they make a profit?

will be paid? Its common

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn’t help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I’m a bot

I learnt something new today haha
