Best VPN for Accessing ChatGPT in China?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently living in China and I’ve been trying to access ChatGPT, but as many of you might know, internet restrictions here make it quite challenging. I’ve heard that using a VPN can help bypass these restrictions, but I’m not sure which one to go for.

Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable VPN that works well in China, specifically for accessing services like ChatGPT? Here are some things I’m looking for:

  • Strong and consistent connection: Stability is key.
  • Good speed: I don’t want it to slow down my internet too much.
  • Ease of use: User-friendly interface is a plus.
  • Security: Strong encryption and privacy features.
  • Customer support: In case I run into issues.

I’ve come across a few names like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Astrill VPN, but I’d love to hear your experiences and suggestions. Any tips on setting it up or other things to consider would also be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The replies in this thread mostly seem to be generic VPN recommendations unrelated to ChatGPT. I don’t have any specific advice, but it will be relatively hard as OpenAI is actively trying to cut off users in China. It’s fairly easy for them to identify which blocks of IP addresses are associated with VPN services and just block them.

The problem you are going to have is that it’s not China trying to prevent you from using GPT. But OpenAI is the one trying to block China from using GPT. And they know about VPN’s.

Just get yourself a shadow rocket or V2ray or Clash then purchase an subscription on any solid VPN service (we call it 机场✈️) any of those VPN downloaded from AppStore is trash and scam and they suck ass - sincere advise from someone with VPN activated 24/7

Currently using expressVPN in china right now. Gets the job done so far.

Express and nord don’t work. I haven’t had issues using ChatGPT with Astrill… yet

I use both astrill and Express and I am not able to access OpenAI Chatgpt4.0 with Express but Astrill works well.

I’ve been using SealVPN to access ChatGPT in China, and it’s been working great for me. It’s fast, stable, and hasn’t let me down when bypassing restrictions. I like how easy it is to set up, and the speeds are solid for both ChatGPT and other blocked services. I HAD ExpressVPN before that doesn’t work in China.

you’re not gonna be guaranteed stability cause the internet in China is generally unstable.

I use CEOVPN2 and it works well. I HAD NordVPN before I came and that doesn’t work in China. As well as the other well-known VPNs. For obvious reasons.

an airline ticket can save all your trouble, especially internet related

Why doesn’t open ai want China to use chatgpt?

Which provider do you use? You can dm if you don’t want to post it here. Thanks!

Like the other guy, curious which service you use and would appreciate if you could share.

This. As long as I’m set to the US it’s fine.

They didnt say in their announcement. Maybe political or economical

https://y-too.com/aff.php?aff=4504 i don’t mind to share it here, no issue for the past year and the speed is stable and easy 4K quality on YouTube, easy access with gpt, easy access to all the porn site if that is your concern

They did say, they claim that China was using GPT to aid them in building their own LLM. OpenAI doesn’t want to make it easy for China to compete against them.

Haha appreciate it man!

Where did they say? It wasnt on the official announcement.

You are right. OpenAI didn’t officially state a reason, or really give any reason. But it appears that is the Government’s reason. Maybe they put pressure on OpenAI.

So far, OpenAI hasn’t explained the looming crackdown. But it comes as the White House has been trying to prevent countries such as China, Russia, and Iran from accessing cutting-edge AI models and technology from US companies.

OpenAI’s shift will accentuate the divide between China and the U.S., which is trying to curb Beijing’s AI and chip efforts.
