Just tested this out. My VPN says I’m connected to Japan, but when Googling my IP the normal one shows up plain as day.
When in Incognito, everything is fine. But Chrome totally remembers your IP and displays it even when connected through a VPN.

It’s a webRTC leak, but I think you should see it also in incognito mode.
Try again here: ipleak.net
and let us know.
Does anyone know if this effects Firefox?
Try this:
from this article:
I use safari most of the time. How does that browser fare in this regard?
If you clear cache and cookies every time you’re done browsing, this will also work out of incognito.
I can’t duplicate this. At all. I’m using PIA, running Yosemite and when I’m connected, none of the sites listed in the comments (neither ipleak.net, nor www.privacytools.io/webrtc.html) show my ISP’s IP. I’m using the most recent versions of Chrome (41.0.2272.104 (64-bit)), Firefox (37.0), and Safari (Version 8.0.4 (10600.4.10.7)). These are straight “out of the box” - I haven’t enabled any of the tweaks mentioned here.
What am I missing?

Win 8.1 no problems. But had a Similar experience on a vista machine. Showed it was connected but when I checked my ip, it was my real one. I had to run it with admin permissions, then it worked. I just changed the program to run as admin, now always connects. Did DNS leak test, no leaks.
Been using IronSocket for a long time and at first, It was like that. Preferably, use Mozilla using a proxy, and then use google chrome when you are working or something.
If using a chromebook is there anything you can do with the browser or any way to change?
I’m not trying to say I don’t believe you but could you expand on the Chrome privacy issues? What do you mean by this? I’ve been using Chrome exclusively for a while now. Should I Definitely switch to Firefox?
Is there a version for macs yet?
There are Chrome builds that have been secured; Comodo, for example, has one they call Chromodo.
Firefox isnt recommended because it has a nasty zero day every few weeks and has no security sandbox.
I’ve been using VPNs with chrome (and working with others who do as well) and have not seen this. It is exceedingly likely that OP is dealing with webpage caching, unless something big has changed in chrome in the last 2 months. I literally was just testing this from overseas all through January and Chrome does NOT disclose your real IP.
EDIT: In the event that I am mistaken, I would want a LOT more info such as what sort of VPN was being used, what operating system was being used, what website was used to test IP address, what version of Chrome. But as it stands, with no information, its likely that its just a cached webpage.
This site doesn’t leak my real IP in any browser, Incognito mode or not. Running Yosemite and PIA.
you have to disable webRTC. If FF you can do it, in Chrome not (yet).
Here how to do it: Where can I disable WebRTC and PeerConnection? | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support
Any VPN. But it only leaks if a site is using web RTC to fetch your IP.
Same here. Although occasionally, I will have to close chrome and reconnect to VPN for chrome to recognize that I have connected.
