Any reputable free VPN extensions that don't nag you?

Foreword: I don’t want to use a desktop VPN because I have no need of one. I only use VPNs for browsing and I prefer extensions because they are very quick and easy to toggle. Also, I often have downloads going on in the background (not in-browser) that I don’t want routed through the VPN while it’s active.

I was using Browsec VPN but it’s basically nagware and the pop-ups were starting to get annoying. That said, it had everything else I was looking for in a VPN. I understand that a free service is going to come attached with some limitations to entice you to upgrade, but I’m wondering if there is at least an alternative that doesn’t show unsolicited pop-ups. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m in the US.

“Free VPN” extensions offered by random companies might as well be selling everyone’s data to advertisers. Only use them in a separate profile and avoid logging in to your accounts while they are enabled.

If you just want to access some sites anonymously/without revealing your location, you have the option to use the Tor browser.

Windscribe seems pretty good. Appreciate it.
