i’m using a raspberry pi running adguard home connected to my wifi router.
i noticed, that my macbook doesn’t show up in the dashboard as a client when i’m using a vpn on my macbook, but as soon as i switch the vpn connection off, the client shows up in adguard home.
now this is a good thing in a way, but how can i make it visible to adguard home even when the vpn is turned on?
No way, if you use a vpn client on your phone it will bypass your internel network (dns server).
The only way is to install your vpn directly on the pi-hole and use it network-wide.
If you are using a VPN, then it’s expected that the DNS queries will be also forwarded to the VPN server for full privacy. These might be some setups where you can use local DNS servers rather than get sent remotely, however it’s up to the VPN software/profile to decide.

now, the weird thing is: i’m running a VPN on my iphone and on my macbook, too.
while my iphone can be seen in adguard home, my macbook cannot. why is that?
