Since yesterday, Youtube stops loading 1 minute into the video. Skipping forward doesn’t help. This is on the latest version of macOS as well as iOS. NordVPN is up to date.
I’ve tried different protocols, servers, specialty servers, clearing cache, and switching to different wifi/cellular networks but nothing worked. The only way to resolve the issue was to disable DNS filtering (under Threat Protection). Other video platforms stream just fine.
I contacted NordVPN support and couldn’t find a way to resolve the issue without disabling DNS filtering. Has anyone experienced this issue or know what’s causing it?
I’ve been unable to watch youtube for a solid week or 2, 50 sec loaded and then it just cannot load any more, only way I can watch more is to completely pause the vpn, which kinda sucks.
Same here. Well, more specifically, JDownloader doesn’t download YouTube videos when I’m connected to NordVPN. It only downloads the first little bit (assuming the first minute) before it stops. This started happening last week. I thought it was an issue with JDownloader, but then I tried while disconnected from NordVPN and it worked fine.
Seems like YouTube has successfully blocked their videos from users connected over NordVPN.
THE ANSWER (and it sucks): On computers with VPN, YouTube disallows viewing longer than one minute. I haven’t found a workaround for my Mac yet, which is why I found this today. Thought I’d drop a little knowledge. BOO YOUTUBE FOR THEIR SELF INTEREST OVER OUR DIGITAL SECURITY.
EDIT: Hey, NordVPN, I see advertising that claims your product is a good vehicle by which we might view YouTube. We here know that that is untrue, so I’d suggest that you pull that advertising.
