Youtube TV and VPN

I’m going to be traveling on Sunday, and want to watch the game on the Plane. I have youtube TV, but according to the coverage map, I wouldn’t get the game. Is there a way to use a VPN and be able to watch?

Isn’t your account tied to your home location even when you travel? I know Directv Stream was when I had it and could watch games on my phone/ipad from anywhere. Signed up for YTV a few weeks ago but haven’t travelled yet with it so cannot speak yet from experience. I do know when I look at my profile, it shows my home area as Dallas.

It’s tough. I believe there is advice on other subreddits and r/youtubetv as far as tricks you can try.

YouTube is pretty quick about detecting VPNs and shutting you down even when you get a few minutes of success

Yes. I use this exact set up but on my pc and laptop. Haven’t tried through the phone.

What airline? There is a decent chance the onboard entertainment provided by the airline will have live TV and I would bet Cowboys are the national game in that time slot.

A few years back I was using a shared YT TV account and it kept insisting I login from “home” location in California. I was living in the midwest at the time.

I changed the lat/long in chromes dev tools to LA, and it let me login and watch everything fine.

Don’t know if this will work for you but hopefully it helps

You could also use your yttv credentials to login to Fox sports and watch on there.

You can test this now… Just VPN to the home city and try to watch TV. They will probably compare billing records to your originating IP and shut you down.

There used to be an app you could download that basically changed/spoofed the location of your device/TV. Might still work, might not.

YouTube TV asks you when you travel if you’ve moved or you’re just visiting. If you select “visiting” your location should remain as where you live.

YouTube Tv knows when you’re using a VPN. However, it knows where your home location is so you can just say you’re traveling and it will play your home channels. If you can’t get that to work, use your VPN to sail the seas.

Yea, I wasn’t sure if the VPN would circumvent that or not. I know with MLB TV I have to sign out of the account, load my vpn and set my location to London, and then log back in so I can watch Red Sox games, since YouTube TV doesn’t have NESN

Also to add, most airlines block VPNs and streaming services on their WiFi. Even the paid versions

This would me my answer as well. Spoof your gps to wherever the game is broadcast locally. Refresh your YouTube TV app until it recognizes your new location and watch the game on the local broadcast. Search the app store for gps spoofer or something similar.

Alaska has great in flight Wifi. If you happen to have T-Mobile, you get free Wifi for at least 4 full flights a year on Alaska Air. I flew Alaska from DC to SF two months ago, and I was able to stream movies on my phone using their wifi.
