Would you use a VPN full time if it meant losing network speed?

I have TG subscription that I would only use when needed. I was thinking about using it full time, however without VPN I get close to a gigabit (850/770) with VPN enabled using Wireguard I’m getting around 450/100.

Would you use full time even at home?

Yes, because you’ll never saturate 450 with normal use.

Everyone today thinks they need 500mbps+…

why do you think you need to use a VPN “full time”?

Unless you are terrified of your ISP, I see no reason to use a VPN full time.

Depends whether the Wireguard speed is sufficient for my needs or not. 450/100 would be fine for me personally, I’m more concerned with latency.

Nope, the average Joe’s data just isn’t worth losing nearly half your speed. Heck, if the ISP was able to see your actions before, be 100% sure that with a VPN the VPN company will have access to your actions, and no amount of encryption can really protect against it…

Try wireguard, you’ll don’t feel a difference.

VPN running where?
On a router vpn (max is ~ 150mbits)
On a pc 200 to 700mbits
On device (it’s depends on chips power, 8-150mbits, it’s case by case)

Outside of pc program, vpn tends to be slow because limited by hardware chips.

I use mine 24/7 when Online on my mac and windows … I surf and do some online bills with it … i’m always connected to my home local server my speeds are good enough to browse and emails and some downloading little stuff I don’t use VPN software …I use WireGuard Native App.

I use it all the time. On my cell phone, it is always active, and on my computer, I leave it active in the browser through an extension and I leave it active on a Hyper-V server with torrents.

Reasons for always leaving it active:

1- I paid, so I want to use it.

2- Increased privacy (I know that using Android or logged into Google accounts, I have no privacy in relation to Google)

3- I don’t see any difference in speed and response, and if there is, I deactivate it.

4- I like to know who is collecting my data.

my VPN is always on when it’s not a “trusted” network, i.e. my home, my girlfriends, my parents. it defaults on for all others. especially at work i don’t like the idea that my employer could potentially monitor what im seeing

Can you test my vpn? (20 gbit) server

I’d probably stick with using it only when needed. The speed drop is noticeable, and for regular use, it might be too much of a trade off…

I run VPN 24/7

Gigabit connection, most of the times I still receive 99% of the connection speed. Obviously this varies from server to server country to country.

Depends on your needs. Like if you live in Germany and seed torrents 24/7 or whatever. Your ISP will block you without a VPN so it’s kind of a necessity.

Otherwise no.

Yes, I use a VPN full time. The loss of speed in my configuration is tiny while the added security is immense.

Yes cause who uses there 100% bw.

If a VPN is going to hamper me watching something from a live tv channel for example, then yes. For example, at home, my internet connection is about 35Mbps down with upload of about 10Mbps. I don’t think VPN is going to be the bottleneck is it?

The bottleneck there would be my connection. Now I can go out somewhere, get 5G and know on a speedtest I’m going to hit 1.2Gbps in some places. Now if I run a speedtest over the VPN, I may only get in region of 200-500Mbps. Now the thought is, if I’m only getting 200Mbps of that 1.2Gbps I could be getting, what is it really stopping me doing? Do I need the maximum bandwidth I can get right now or stick on VPN?

For the most part, I’d leave my VPN active unless I had a task such as I needed to get something downloaded more quickly.

I think it would be annoying since many sites and services don’t allow VPN. I finally have a router that can run the VPN but I can’t decide which devices could use it.

I don’t need one full time. Was curious if you guys run them full time
