Why is UK so often pointed at when setting VPN for another country?

I work with VPNs and I see the trend here.

India? Nope, UK. Nigeria? Nope, UK. Belgium? Nope, UK.

What causes UK to be so popular? It’s not one VPN, its multiple different VPN providers. It’s just confusing.

Depending on the VPN provider, it’ll try to connect to the closest VPN endpoint that has the best speed and lowest load. If you’re in the immediate European area, then the UK would be a logical VPN endpoint. There’s also a decent amount of under sea internet cables that are connected between the US and UK.

Access to geo-blocked content.

The UK is all round just a great place to VPN, it has direct connections to most of NA and the rest of Europe, and streaming services just tend to be good in the UK.

BBC and UK Channel 4 (if you like Bake off)

Yeah, but like, why does it keep showing as places in UK when it’s supposed to be place in India

I’m confused, can you elaborate?

Work phone set to, say, India.

Google thinks you are in UK. You get suggested languages in UK, you get British search results.

You mean to say you VPN to india and it thinks you’re in the UK?

Yep!

About half the time.

Ah, sometimes it might be the server is actually in India? Idk virtual servers are too common

I mean, that sounds more like “Server in UK points at india”

Considering the VPN is supposed to point at India, and says it connects to India and instead gives UK
