Why does Sophos Home cut my internet speed to be 1/3 the actual speed?

I have been using Sophos home for around 5 years now, and in the last 2 weeks, my speed test has been reduced to around 1/3 the actual speed.
when I boot in safe mode with networking, it goes to full speed, or when I uninstall Sophos it goes back to full speed, however with Sophos installed it is restricted.
This happens in all 3 browsers - edge, chrome and firefox
the speed test app is always at full speed and is not restricted.

What is the fix for this?

Can’t say for sure but sophos recently published a rewritten code base agent to enterprise customers. Your issues seem to correlate for this time period. What version of agent is currently installed? See if it is the new one.

We’ve seen this with speed tests before. For some reason when you run the speed test, it causes Sophos to max out the CPU, and you get reduced throughput.

In normal day-to-day use and file downloads and stuff, you normally get your maximum download speeds.

I confirmed this issue is real, and disabling “Enable to block websites that are known to have malware” is the fix. Sophos needs to fix this stupidity now.

Is Sophos running a Cryptominer in the background?

I’m having the same issue. Turns out my 10G network issues on my PC are not ASUS’s fault!!!

I have Sophos Home 4.2.1.1
But I think I’ve found the issue, I have disabled the below setting and it’s back to full speed.
“Enable to block websites that are known to have malware”

Can say as an enterprise user we’ve been seeing all sorts of issues with network speeds since that rolled out. Even file transfers over the local network get slowed down. Disabling tamper protection and turning off all features doesn’t even help. A full uninstall speeds things up. When trying to download a large file (5GB+) from the internet, like an iso image, sophos consumes all of the cpu and will cause things to start crashing, plus the download will end up failing after a while. Uninstall sophos and that large file downloads no problem.

Confirmed here as well… 350mb down to 50 with that setting enabled. Turn it off, and speed returns to normal.

That would be hilarious since a large portion of their sales training covers their cryptojacking protection.
