When using Reddit with a VPN, is it best to log in first then turn on your VPN?

That defeats the purpose

First turn your VPN on and than open any app that uses internet…

Why u need vpn for reddit?

When using Reddit with a VPN, is it best to log in first then turn on your VPN?

Cancel your VPN subscription. You are just wasting your money as you clearly show that you have no idea why to use a VPN service.

I had the same question, whenever I post or comment it automatically detects it as spam and removes it and I think its because am using a vpn am still not sure

is it safe to input any sort of password or account info while still on the VPN in terms of safety, rather than privacy to the website?

People use it to get around sub bans. Commonly, they’ll use their main account off VPN, and then they’ll turn on the VPN, make a new account, and use the VPN any time they use the new account to get around the bans.

Reddit will know your accounts true IP address

I tend to be causous and check unknown sites I visit https://www.howtogeek.com/133680/htg-explains-what-is-a-vpn/

Recently I prefer to use DuckDuckGo’s app tracking protection as “local” VPN What is DuckDuckGo App Tracking Protection? | DuckDuckGo Help Pages

Like they were individually banned from a subreddit and wanted back on? Or am I misunderstanding? I thought it was so you couldn’t be tracked through IP address and accounts weren’t connected if having accounts you want to remain separate like a professional and personal account on socials, reddit, Gmail etc. Am I wrong in understanding it will do that?

most of the sites i visit are safe so i dont have too much to worry about there, im more so worried about if my password info is safe to be inputted while connected to the VPN

ive done some reading and it looks like its generally safe since HTTPS encryption and connection to the VPN has all your data packed and the vpn sort of acting as another layer or tunnel of “hiding” or protection. so im assuming the password and sensitive info is encrypted before the VPN service/client even gets it

Yup. Their account was individually banned from a subreddit, so they make a new account while using a VPN so that they can circumnavigate the ban on that subreddit.

Yes, people do use VPNs in general, even for Reddit just for privacy reasons, but a large number of VPN users on Reddit are trying to get around bans for various subs.

Well the purpose of the VPN is to mask your real IP address. Visiting Reddit and logging in with your VPN off will just reveal your actual IP.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and explain to me!

No it’s not! The purpose of VPN is to create virtual private network

Not if you refresh the page

Why did you ask the question and now you’re arguing with the answer?

If you login without a VPN, the IP address you logged in from is recorded. If you then swap to the VPN Reddit would see that you logged in from one IP then swapped to a second IP, the first record of your non-VPN IP won’t suddenly disappear.

So log in on original IP → IP + account
Put on VPN → vpn-IP + account

Where is the anonymous use now ?
The whole purpose is not to show up in logging with your original ipadresses.

This is the same dumb usage people do by using a VPN and logging in on their gmail/facebook/telegram whatever.

Using vpn doesn’t delete the old record of your previous ip, all sites and services like games and other software save all ip records for years
